Thread: Automatic Jetta's Stuck in Park...Please Help!

    1. 05-31-2005 10:37 AM #1
My girlfriend's 2001 Automatic Jetta GLS got stuck in park this morning at the gas station and wont shift into gear. This has happened before but always cured itself with a little time and patience, but today she was stranded indefinetely. Does anyone know what a possible cause and fix could be? It will be taken to a mechanic shortly, but I would like to have a little knowledge under my belt before I talk to the mechanic.

Also, the EPC light on the dash just came on the night before this all happened...related in any way? I read some other posts somewhere about a faulty brake switch, coudl this be the problem? Where is this located and is it an easy fix? Thanks.

check and make sure the brake lights work, if not, the switch is bad and will prevent the tranny from shifting into gear.

Pushed everything in your could possibly push in.

      Pumped brakes, start/restart car, etc.

She is having trouble with it as we speak, but now finally got it into Nuetral, but still cannot shift into drive.

Tow truck is on the way.

      Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

No, but considering there is a recall it can be free if you do it right.

Can any dealership/mechanic do the repairs under recall, or only Jetta dealers/certified or whatever do the recall.

      Thanks.

After finding the recall online (http://www.internetautoguide.com/auto-recalls/67-int/2001/volkswagen/jetta/gls/index.html) and calling the number listed, the lady from Volkswagen tells us that there is no recall out for that part. (brake light switch)

      Bull****!
