i have run yellow headlight bulbs for along time in the past in my crystal crosshairs. last night i was pulled over by Glendale PD in California. and given a ticket for having them. i thought the as long as they are white and/or yellow they are legal to have. i also got writen up for not having a front licence plate on my car. but, i knew that was wrong and i'll put it back on today.
so, is it illegal to run my yellow headlights? can i fight this? just to be on the safe side i'm going to install my new set of HID bulbs anyway

I was fairly sure yellow lights were legal, as per DOT.

i've been running yellow headlights for the past 4 years (80/100w too) and never had a problem and ive been pulled over a few times

its always tricky state to state tho, you have to check your local ordinances

      Check your State/Province/Local laws

That said, Aircooled VW's that aren't running on the 12v system have lights that are practically yellow

I am prity sure there legal in most places since the yellow lens would soften a white light. But if your running HID it want mater what coulor the lens is.

I had yellow city lights back in 94-95 and I was pulled over for tint after sunset. Well he was in the middle of an intersection and spotted my car with yellow lights so he waited for me at the next intersection, I'm sure I wasn't pulled over just for the tint because the light was the second thing he checked after noting my light tint. (I said I got the tint with the car). He didn't see that the lenses were yellow so he let that one go. He let me go on the tint with a warning.

Oh, that was in Glendale too.

Bottom line is, it draws attention. I run regular white city lights now and haven't been hassled again since.
