Thread: Three Beeps...is my passat trying to tell me something?

    1. 08-01-2005 03:30 AM #1
      G'day,

Just got the passat back after the major stuffup on VW's part...anyway now when i start the car i get three short sharp beeps....not the normal five chimes you get when you turn on the electrics, this is happening after that when i actually engage the starter motor.
The only light on the dash is the hand break light but that is supposed to be on as the handbreak is engaged.

      Help please?

      Cheers,

      Hurf

I can't remember exactly, but it could mean your front brakepads are worn out.

Can't remember if this was what I was hearing when we started the car before our OEM battery died...you should have it checked just in case...

      /karl

It's you ABS computer! It happens to everyone with a '98 - 00 VW Passat. The computer is defective from the factory and VW will not fix it under any warranty. It's $2000 to get a new one, most people don't fix it.

Ignore him. Obviously he didn't have anything constructive to say about the issue.

It looks like the ABS and break light flash once when it beeps...very faintly

Get someone with a vag-com to check it out and see if anything is throwing codes, or just go get it diagnosed at a dealer. $75 for diagnostics...it's a lot of money but you'll know exactly what is wrong with your car.

shouldnt the abs light come on and stay on the same way the CEL stays on and beeps after you start driving?

You say you just got it back? Looks like VW missed a ground mayhaps. That's what my 04 Jetta used to do when the negative terminal used to come loose, and later, when the chassis ground started to work loose.
