today: Stub axles, brakes and bearings
And from the look of it, I'm going to have to hunt down some springs

Yeah, it's an 8v. If I wanted a sporty car, I'd buy an R.

It's a $200 Bosch pump... but yeah, same can be done with just about any inline pump. I don't have to worry about the box breaking or cracking on me. If the pump ever needs replaced again, we're talking five-minute job, max.![]()

We did something similar, though our mounting hardware was constructed of whatever we had laying around in the driveway (car was a non-runner at PO's house, and all we had was a used Vanagon pump and some foam and wire).
Ours was temporary, but yours looks much nicer anyway![]()
We're now running a single in-tank pump...in fact, here's the "install".

^^I looked at that thread before I embarked on my journey. (single in-tank pump)
Thanks! Right now, the outlet hose is 3/8", and get's reduced down to 5/16" to meet the filter (with a barbed hose coupling and a couple clamps). This can be accomplished with just one hose, provided you have a female -6AN to 5/16" hose barb adapter. The 3/8" adapter was all I was able to find locally, and I had to order the correct one.
I will be swapping that output hose out with a proper -6AN to 5/16" fitting as soon as it gets here. This will eliminate the hose coupling and the two extra hose clamps. I also want to swap all my hoses to 5/16" Aeroquip, but none was available locally, and I couldn't wait. It'll look cleaner when it's done, done.
Here's the part number -- Bosch 0 580 254 044

Walked around mine ,looked at it and walked away with my head down ..a bad diff really upset me after all I did registering it , and trailering it an hour away just to turn around 20 mins later .
The diff is bad,the bearings wobble around and it was go na cost more than my funds allowed to get it fixed .so she sits again til I get money and a trans .![]()

Got blown off for the third time by someone trying to sell a trans, still looking for one, if anyone comes across this, looking for a trans for an 87 8v GTI. Other than that, wishing that my mechanical fuel injection stuff looked better in the bay, gotta pick up an engine stand to do a head gasket/valve cover gasket/degrease/paint engine tomorrow
My girlfriend and I may have broken up after three years, but then again, I have the MK2<3
#21438
You can use an 020 trans from just about any 4cyl VW.
If "87 8v" isn't pulling anything for you, try searching in the MKII and MKIII classifieds for "020", or asking around for transmissions from 90's 2.0L cars. You may even end up with better mileage depending on the gearset. 020's are nearly a dime a dozen, especially if you don't care about specific gear combinations, and just need one to work.

^^^^whoa, what the hell happened?????
Had the opportunity to drive it to work today. I love itSometimes, I just wish it were a 4 door with all the creature comforts.....
#21451
well.. what you cannot see in the picture is the terrible running 8v and the cancerous rust that was tucked everywhere. I started doing work and gave up on it, sold it to my friend and he used alot of parts for his jetta then scrapped the rest.
#21452
This has been my project since I bought it off ebay back in July. It spent most of it's life in Texas, so totally rust free. I just put a party interior in it so will add pictures later. Will be adding euro side markers next. I'm waiting for my LED bulbs. Probably come in the mail tomorrow.

Can't figure out how to post photos. Sorry.
