Just got her back from cut and buff, now to put her interior back together and the rest of the trim on the outside and core support and grille.

Got blown off for the third time by someone trying to sell a trans, still looking for one, if anyone comes across this, looking for a trans for an 87 8v GTI. Other than that, wishing that my mechanical fuel injection stuff looked better in the bay, gotta pick up an engine stand to do a head gasket/valve cover gasket/degrease/paint engine tomorrow
My girlfriend and I may have broken up after three years, but then again, I have the MK2<3

You can use an 020 trans from just about any 4cyl VW.
If "87 8v" isn't pulling anything for you, try searching in the MKII and MKIII classifieds for "020", or asking around for transmissions from 90's 2.0L cars. You may even end up with better mileage depending on the gearset. 020's are nearly a dime a dozen, especially if you don't care about specific gear combinations, and just need one to work.

Swapped out the blown dash speakers for some new ones. Also found out all that chirping from the engine bay is the water pump bearing going out Was replaced not even a year ago.

well.. what you cannot see in the picture is the terrible running 8v and the cancerous rust that was tucked everywhere. I started doing work and gave up on it, sold it to my friend and he used alot of parts for his jetta then scrapped the rest.

    17. 02-24-2012 11:59 PM #21437

This has been my project since I bought it off ebay back in July. It spent most of it's life in Texas, so totally rust free. I just put a party interior in it so will add pictures later. Will be adding euro side markers next. I'm waiting for my LED bulbs. Probably come in the mail tomorrow.

I shuttled around some wheels and tires for my roommate... haha

It made my car extra low though! My tires weren't a huge fan of this though, they screamed most of the way home

Tried to narrow down the reasons why my coupe keeps wanting to stall out when idling and occasionally driving. First thing I checked was the ISV, which seems to not be working at all. Turn the ignition on, pop the hood, no buzzing or vibrating or anything. I don't really care about it idling when it's cold, but if this is causing the stalling/hesitation every now and then, it really needs to be fixed. It feels more like a fuel problem though. I'm gonna order a new ISV and change the fuel filter in the mean time to see if that helps at all.

      Changed trans
      New clutch/pp/TO bearing/flywheel
      Rebuilt shifter linkage
      TT short shifter
      Weighted shift rod
      New driver's axle
      Timing belt
      Heater Hose
      VC gasket
      All vac lines
      Dash lights
      added Recaro gray's

Figured I'd be done..got it fired up, found out the one oil pressure switch is bad and the rad is broken. Grr...

got my 2"x3" polished stainless coolant overflow bottle Hopefully get it put on tommorow and stop puking coolant on my alternator, and more sanding and smoothing the body, getting ready for a primer white spray bomb and still drive it daily at the same time

Before you do that... clean this... I had the same problem and this cleared all problems and the car runs fun. I squirted alcohol into it and shook it up a few times a dump out. Repeat.. repeat...

      02-25-2012 05:45 PM #21448
Ripped out my engine harness because it was the wrong one. Looked at it. Sitting in the carport and wishing I could drive it to the g2g today. And cried a bit since its been sitting for 2 weeks and my other car is at the shop.
