Hi all,Ever since I joined the vortex I see people asking about the correct spark plugs for their engine. Many debates have developed over time and if one does a search he would find a lot of conflicting information.
So I spent 10 minutes digging through my Bentley Manual and I created the chart below. I hope this will be useful to all who need to know more about the spark plugs needed for their engines!
UPDATE: On The Third Line Bottom Up, I made a mistake! I am lising the AWD engine twice! It should be AWD, AWP, AWW
Please, note that this data is gathered from the Official Factory Repair Manual published by Bentley Publishers!

Now, not all of these are NGK! The Bentley manual only has the model number and not the manufacturer. For an example, the 2.0 AEG engine uses NGK spark plugs. Other 2.0's use BOSCH!

This needs a bump!

Vasil,I was under the impression that when you buy platinum plugs, you don't have to gap them since they are pregapped for the vehicle in question. I've always run NGK IX's. Let me know if I need to change this: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1792683.

Funny, I just went through all this hassle of spark plugs. It depends if you have mods done. I bought a set of NGK's one range colder and they gapped them to .030, which is stock. I put them in and it ran like crap. Went out and bought a proper feeler gauge set and regapped them to .028 and now she runs great. No rough idle, no misfires. Just make sure you torque them down properly or the coils will pop up all the time.

I had a shop replace a faulty coil pack and they installed new plugs in the process. They didn't both to ask me if I wanted the NGKs and just put in bosch or something like that. Will this make a big difference in idle, response and mileage? What are the chances that they'll swap them back out for the correct plugs?

ngk bkr6e's gapped to .032

Weird ish... this car place that I went to today lists the stock 12V vr replacements as 6E as opposed to the 5E posted up here in the table.Regardless, I'd be more inclined to trust the Bentley values instead of this car shop.

If it is running well and you're getting good gas mileage, i'd leave em....at least until next time your doing a service, and then change 'em

what do you mean by "doing a service"? the next time i bring my car to the mechanics? or the next time i have to change the plugs? also, how often do they need to be changed??thanks

I have been having some lagging problems when i would accelerate and when my car was in idle. I was thinking it might me the mass air flow sensor but i figured i try new spark plugs.Long story short I bought 4 NGK-BKR6E spark plugs (gapped .28) for my 1.8T and all the lagging problems went away.
Much cheaper than an air flow sensor.
Note: MKIV is chipped

I'm about to replace the spark plugs on my GTI MK4 1.8T since I am now feeling this little vibration when I'm in idle and there's a delay in power when I press on the gas...
I am confused about what brand to get. Should I get NGK? Bosch? or should I just drive to the dealership and get an OEM plugs from them? Please help!!! THANK YOU!
By the way, thanks for creating such informative thread! SALUTE!![]()
