    Thread: Passat Trunk Size?

    1. 08-29-2005 03:24 PM #1
Can anyone confirm what the size in cubic feet is of the trunk in the new Passat? I've seen references in various publications that its anywhere from 14 cubic feet to 19? Can anyone confirm what is the correct number? Thanks. I did a search but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the link. It states in the docuemnt that the trunk is 14.2 cubic feet. I think this is smaller that the B5.5 trunk? Can anyone comment? Is seems odd that the new trunk would be smaller than the old one. I thought that one of the advantages of the increased rear overhang would be a larger trunk?

      from current Autoweek review:

The car is also larger in most respects than its predecessor, with a 3.0-inch-longer and wider body resulting in 1.3 more cubic feet of passenger capacity (up from 95.0). Rear-riding passengers benefit most from this increase, with 2.2 more inches of legroom; curiously, front passengers find headroom compromised by 1.3 inches, while trunk space shrinks by 0.8 cubic foot.

I don't know where the 14 cubic foot figure came from; when I read the original press release came out with specifications, it listed a trunk capacity in litres, which I converted and came out to be 19.x cubic feet.

I did the same conversion and also got just short of 20 cubic feet. My 99 Jetta has 13.5 and, to my eyes, the new Passat looks quite a bit bigger. I hope so!

It definately *looks* smaller than my B5. Doesn't seem as deep IMO.

Buuuuut, if you get it without a spare tire (rep. kit) you can fit a small suitcase in the spare tire-well too.

I believe that stating cubic feet of storage area is somewhat vague. If you are comparing X vehicle to Y vehicle to see which has a larger capacity it is clear but I think if the actual dimensions (length, width, height) were given you could get a better idea of what would fit in the trunk.

18.2 cu ft according to my passat trainer.. 20 was an estimate and 14.2 was a misprint..
