mata...sorry for yet another rc question.
    seriously considering this
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLKY9&P=0
available as a combo from tower
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1p?&I=L7LKY9**
just curious if there was something there that i should upgrade through the "build your own combo"
    like battery or charger....

ollllld news on that google maps thing, there was also one for england or whatever.

Get one of the Radios that Mata recc the other day, its either on 572 or 571

  4. 11-05-2010 12:07 AM #20024
Don't go with that combo. Go for a nimh battery, and a digital peak charger. Both are linked a few posts up. Get the the ball bearing set, aluminum drive shaft, and aluminum motor mount. I'll post links tomorrow if you can't find them on tower hobbies.

  5. 11-05-2010 08:37 AM #20025
If you want to do the ultimate combo:
    Chassis:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLKY9
    Battery: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXUP0
    Charger: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWTE0
    TX/RX/Servo:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1p?&I=LXASX3**

    Total: $197.36

    Recommended upgrades:

    BallBearing:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBUA9&P=7
    MotorMount:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFSE7&P=7
    PropShaft&Joint: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUGY8&P=M
    Drift Tires: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=L5TDP002&P=7

    Total: $62.07

    Better but more expensive components:
    TX/RX/Servo:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0161p?&I=LZ0960
    Charger: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCLD5&P=7

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Retail Drift tires are the way to go since they last much longer than PVC or ABS (apparently) and provide a more controller/stable drift. I don't have experience with them but its what I keep hearing.

DIY ABS Tires can be had from Hooper Plumbing on Timberlake. Ask for: ABS pipe 2 inch inner diameter. PVC Tires provide less grip/durability and its white.

If all else fails, you can wrap the stock rubber tires with electrical tape. It'll last for that session and will need to be reapplied constantly. Its best suited for polished concrete.

    More questions about RC cars!

What kind of wheels can I use with the TT01r chassis? HPI? or stick with Tamiya wheels? HPI has the Work wheels I really want, but I suppose I can settle for some 5-spoke Tamiyas.

Tamiya wheels are narrower 24mm. Hpis are 26mm. Both work just fine. U only have to worry about it if you buy Hpi tdrift tires which fit 26mm rims and if you buy TAMiya drifttech tires which fit 24mm rims.

but if I do that, I can have them look like super stretched tires with some of the wheel showing!

Chassis delivery next fri, stupid slow cheap shipping.

  13. 11-06-2010 02:12 PM #20033
You can definitely stretch the stock rubber tires. The drift tires are hard rubber that is the consistency of plastic. The stretched look would be sweet looking along with a nice negative camber and slammed body.

Grats on buying a chassis. Building it was a lot of fun. Did you remember to buy polycarbonate spray paint?

Wait till you get into modding..shipping from China and Japan takes 2 weeks to get here. The cheapest shipping is not very cheap especially if the item is as big as a chassis..like the polycarbonate shell.

so, to anyone driving down wards ferry, be careful!

They decided to dig up a little trench that goes all the way across both lanes, my drivers side took the brunt of the damage even though i slowed down to like 10mph by the time I realized what they did. The only thing they marked the trench was a small orange cone on either side of the road.

I now carry bits and pieces of wards ferry with me wherever I go : )

Or at least until I take the blowtip and get it all out, some gravel made it to the shift linkage weight thing in front of the firewall

    Nice.

I finally installed LEDs on mine and some other unnecessary bling. I have it configured for Counter Steer drift and its been tricky. It requires more skill to hold a drift but I think with practice I can be as good as I was with 50:50 Drift.

Sorry Jon I dropped off the tool box.

As for the jacket I will find you one for cheap if I can.

So I took out the massive toe out and returned it to about a degree toe out and it is now drifting way better..atleast it does on carpet squares. I also figured out that the majority of the radio interferences I was getting was from my wedding ring.

For anyone getting an AM transmitter, I'm running on frequency 84.

    Edit:

So CS kit with locked rear diffs and open front diffs is the setup for carpet drifting. Tarmac drifting sucks with that setup. I'm going to lock the front diffs tonight and see how it goes tomorrow.

Really? From your wedding band? What material is it made of? I wonder how have a locked front and open rear would affect it?

    forgive them paul, they're old

55 shipped for Neuspeed short shift kit, good deal?

I really just want to get rid of my really sloppy shifter, it moves back and forth when I'm accelerating/turning/stopping/looking at it wrong.

    Jon,

I'm pretty sure I paid 2 or 3 times that for my VF Engineering short shifter. Go for it.

    Eric,

My wedding band is made out of unobtainium but I tested it with a titanium and white gold one and it resulted in the same radio interference. Good excuse to upgrade to a spread spectrum tx/rx.

I can't run open diffs on the back because the CS kit requires a locked diff. I decided to sorta lock the front diff which actually resulted in a limited slip diff. So far so good, it understeer's a tad which I'm hoping it will keep the back end from being too tail happy.

    Kevin,

Thanks for bringing the tackle box full of rc stuffs. I've to yet dive into it but i'm planning on it soon.

    Jason,

    hahahaha, that belair is badass.

I think rapp needs to get a lightbar for the top of his AE86, and still have it painted in the tofu getup (btw I have some white poly Tamiya spraypaint already from something I painted last year)

    Mataleao - expect questions soon!
