2 defective tails???...did they do anything at all before (Cadbury99)?

Or could this be something that was cause when performing the DIY? (Tim)

    With European lights?

You can get European tails and they are plug and play most likely, like a Passat. And they'll blink amber!

I have a customer at my shop who is taking his Eos to Sweden and needs to have Amber rear turn signals. just wondering if there is any way to make the rear LEDs flash amber by altering the coding. If not, anyone have a solution?

Odds are that the U.S. EOS tail lights are similar to the U.S. B6 Passat.
The outer ring of LEDs will only have one tiny DOT that lights up in RED only.
Dual color Tails will have two tiny DOTs in the outer ring (Leds) that light up in RED, and Amber for the turn signal.

    P.S.
If the car is headed for Europe, you may have to install a Rear Fog Light also.

Check with TMTuning on the availability of European EOS Tail Lights.

    http://www.tmtuning.com/vw/

You should call them and verify that they have Amber Turn Signals, and if they are plug and play (The U.S. B6 Passat is plug and play, all of the wiring remains as from the factory, and there are no code changes required). The Rear Fog should be the same as the B6, and Jetta, so check out that DIY in your spare time.

If you can post up the Central Electronics coding, it would help out.

You might have better luck asking that in the Volkswagen Eos Forum

while it is against my religon to tell you to search ,
if you did search the archive of the Eos Forum you would find this post on your topic -

    Re: Rear TailLight Question... (PanEuropean)

FWIW, the European lights use an amber colour for the rear turn signals, and I think that the brake light illumination level remains the same when the turn signal is active.
There are considerable differences between front and rear turn signal behaviours between ROW and North America - not just on VWs, but on many vehicle types - even my motorcycle.

    Michael

Might I suggest you revive that thread with your question in a more appropriate venue and closer to 'on topic'?

I'll mirror what Tim said: He'll likely need new, ECE spec rear lamps. Since they're both 3C chassis cars I'd wager they're almost the same from a lighting standpoint.

On a positive note, that is all that needs to be done. It's plug/play from there.

Tim, in reference to StlJetta's code and post #7 in this thread by you, shouldn't
BYTE 04, BIT 6 set to = "0" make it
    14 05 8E 27 00 04 15 instead of
    14 05 8E 27 40 00 15 ?
From what I can see.. the changes made to StlJetta's code is
    BYTE 05, BIT 2 set to = "0"
Is this just a tiny mistake or have I overlooked something in the thread?

Thanks, appreciate the help very much,
    Brandon.

    You did catch one mistake.
Keep in mind that BYTES count from the left, starting with BYTE 00.

The Original question was coding for the tails and the Rear Fog.

So BYTE 03 which is HEX 27 is correct

    HEX 27 is Binary 0010 0111
Bits count from right to left, starting with BIT 0
BIT 1 set to = 1 gives you one (1) Rear Fog
BIT 2 set to = 1 gives you one (1) Backup Light

    BYTE 04 was HEX 40, or BINARY 0100 0000
BIT 6 set to = 1 Disables the Rear fog, seting this BIT to = 0 enables the rear fog, and the reultant HEX is 00, Binary 0000 0000.

I will send you the basic programming for the tails.
(send your original Long Code along, and specify if you want the rear fog, or no rear fog)

Generic AMBER Coding, Central Electronics Controller, BYTES 09 through 13
    U.S Code in HEX:

    14 00 00 00 14

    AMBER Code in HEX:

    0A 00 00 0F 00

    HEX 0A = 0000 1010 binary
    HEX 0F = 0000 1111 binary

    Refinements:
BYTE 18, BIT 1 set to = "0" (uncheck the BIT in the Long Code Helper)
    BYTE 18, BIT 5 set to = "0"
    BYTE 19, BIT(s) 2 & 3 set to = "0"

    Rear Fog?

BYTE 03, BIT(s) 1 & 2 set to = "1" (check the BITs in the long Code Helper)
    BYTE 18, BIT 3 set to = "1"
    BYTE 04, BIT 6 set to = "0"

    Bonus BYTE/BIT:
BYTE 17, BIT 0 set to = "1" (emergency braking, flash the Tail Lights)

BYTE(s) 18/19 contain BITs relating to Cold Diagnostics that are not required on the LED Tails, except BIT 3 which is the BIT for the Rear Fog Diag.
If you are not doing the Rear Fog, then skip what I posted concerning the Rear Fog.

    Hello Tim,

I made the changes to my long code for just this part...

    U.S Code in HEX: 14 00 00 00 14

    AMBER Code in HEX: 0A 00 00 0F 00

And it seems to be working fine... my Led Tailighst doesnt have the fog light so im wondering what this refinement part does....??

    Refinements:
BYTE 18, BIT 1 set to = "0" (uncheck the BIT in the Long Code Helper)
    BYTE 18, BIT 5 set to = "0"
    BYTE 19, BIT(s) 2 & 3 set to = "0"

And also do i need to change anything else to this Led Tailights work correct?

The changes to BYTE 18, and 19 are to disable cold Diagnostics.
These Code changes were taken from a German MKV Jetta, and they are the same on the U.S. Passat.

Cold Diagnostic pulses will mess up the LED Tails over a period of time, so the longevity of your LED Tails is at stake.
Please apply BYTE 18, and BYTE 19 changes as soon as you can.

    Tim,

That worked like a charm, Thanks! I'm now a proud member of Club AMBER! The only issue I ran into was with the rear fog... No problem with the coding, just that I started counting the B-harness plug from the wrong side and was initially in PIN3 instead of PIN4...

I did this a few weeks ago (maybe like 6-8), just wanted to give props to Tim for his work, went off flawlessly. have been too lazy to activate the rear fog, but I did turn it off so that i only have the reverse light on when backing.

cliffs notes: great thread, worked wonders

Hey Tim! Great to see you still rocking the Amber LED club!

I've also been busy with (local) hands on conversion to LED Tails, and, believe it or not, reversions from LED to Stock...

Not to mention a B6 Passat shipping to the U.K. and installing the Rear Fog on the "Wrong" side.

You are the tail light god!

Sounds like you are having fun. My TDI is still as fun and fantastic as the day I bought it (67,000 miles ago). My 17 year old drives it most of the time now. He's become a fellow TDI fanatic like his father and takes great care of it.

I've been pre-occupied lately with the latest addition - a B7 A4 Avant. Something to hold me over until the A3 TDIs start arriving.

Still tinkering with the Jetta though. Just converted the fogs to yellow bulbs and now kicking around the S5 LED running light mod for it.

    Cheers!

    17 year old Son?

Heck My Grand Daughter is 9 years old...

    Piker!

Without you, and Chris, and quite a few other people that I cannot remember (quite a lot of us) we would still be rocking Stock Tails.

    "Piker!" ha ha

I think doing the fog light mod and figuring out the tail light thing with you and Chris was the best Jetta adventure yet. I did complete the GLI front spoiler and rear valance like you though. Really sets the car apart from the rest of the TDI crowd.
