It is a pretty cool little truck. I think the price will make or break this truck though.

While it is certainly not the most attractive SUV available, I think one of these with 4WD and a six-speed would be a blast to own.

Nice little truck, the dealership I work for has 6 or 7 orders already and we don't move a lot of trucks/suvs.

It's on my shopping list. Six speed plus 4l V6 plus shortened 4Runner chassis = one SUV that may actually live up to the name Sport Utility Vehicle. Can't wait to kick the tires on one.

These are going to do well. Very well.

I talked with the SUV brand manager from Toyota (forgot his name now) at SEMA. He says the truck will start in the "low 20's" and run out to the "upper 20's". Other people at the booth were talking more specific numbers ($22-28,000). I think at these prices they'll have a waiting list, so long as gas prices remain steady.

The display placque indicated that it would only come with a 4.0 liter V6. Didn't indicate whether 4WD is standard though. Either way, it looks like a really functional truck. I'm even considering one to replace our Forester XT.

Land Rover will be revealing an all-new Defender in the coming months, and I think they'll be watching the buzz around this new FJ before they reveal too much more.

They will all be 4WD, and I would expect a waiting list similar to the Prius, I know this is one of the few Toyotas I would like to own.

(Answering my own question) I read that the tow rating will be 5000 lbs, or equivalent to a Honda Ridgeline.

Yep, tow rating is 5000lb. Respectable.

Being an avid rockcrawler, I'm always happy to see truly capable 4x4 vehicles. I applaud Toyota for attempting to return to their roots. I'm surprised, though, that they don't offer a front locker. If they had one, there would be no need for the traction control setup (which merely mimics having traction). If you're gonna come this close to providing an alternative to the Wrangler Rubicon, why not go all the way?

Having said that, I do need to point out the foolishness of the reviewer. Stacking rocks, being pulled out by a strap when you're stuck and using a jack to extricate yourself do not qualify as "walking through" the Rubicon (or any trail for that matter).

      Cool retro Landcruiser grille.
Looks like they have taken the concept of the worst blind spot in the industry (Sequoia) to the next level...

Just my luck....I saw one of these driving on the freeway in LA today along with a well disguised Camry and a slightly modified RAV4.

      Looks good.

Is it me or does the interior look like a joke?

lets put blue plastic around the radio to make it correspond to the exterior color.

is it going to be red when the vehicle is red, etc?

and the dials for the A/C look like they came off of an older GM/Ford truck, the compass from an old school oldsmobile.

I cut them some slack, this will be a lot of truck for the money.

One negative - that hugely wide C-pillar makes for rather big blind spots.

Yeah, probably. It's a retro concept, and back in the "good ol' days" trucks had metal dashboards that were painted the same color as the body. Look at a pre-'90's Jeep. Same reason the New Beetle has body-colored door caps. Sure, it may be plastic in this FJ, but body-colored dash trim is one of those things that make the whole retro thing work.

Ugh, while I give Toyota credit for trying IMO they've failed misserably. Why would anyone take this over a Jeep Wrangler (other than the fact it's not a domestic)?

the wheels (not tires, just the wheels), wenches in the front and rear bumpers, the lack of a spare mounted to the gate in the concept (i like it better without the spare mounted in the back), glass top in the rear, roof rack, and the hood. it was the little things that did it for me.

      - More power.
      - Better back seat.
      - More cargo space.
      - Quieter.
      - Probably more reliable.

      Need I go on?
