Totally. I've been driving my GTI with the USRT kit for about two months now, I can't go back to the stock mk2 shifter bushings (my other diesel golf has the normal stuff). Such a huge difference.
If your pieces are different then most likely you have kit for mk1.
I found a nice write-up with pictures for mk1 linkage upgrade here:
mk2 only uses slightly different pieces but it's basicaly the same thing.
Before you start taking everything apart make sure you buy these parts as they don't come with USRT kit. Your local NAPA store has everything you need and they're cheap.
You actually need only 2 orange bushings, since they don't sell them separately you need to buy 2 kits
also buy this shifter repair kit
I'm not sure if NAPA sells alignment tool, but having it cuts down your time and frustration level ... or do it in third gear and you don't need a tool
if not you can always use cassette tape trick http://www.strictlyea.com/features/diyshifter.html

You can also get the special too from germanautoparts.com. I got mine for 17 bucks. It was a little pricey but it's something I know I'll keep for life...provided I don't lose it
My friend just bought the USRT kit, and I plan on one for myself as well. The kit comes with little metal bushings or spacers. Where do they go and what do u have to drill out with the 5/16 bit? The kit didnt come with any instructions what so ever. Not even a dam sticker lol. And where r the location of the bushings? Thank u. Great thread btw. U the man lol
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-USRT-Linkage. . It's for a MKI but many of the details are the same especially my method of making the needed 5/16" holes.
Also, here's USRT install instructions for a MKII http://www.usrallyteam.com/downloads...&2_install.pdf
