Thread: pic's on my mk3 console swap

  1. 12-01-2005 08:50 PM #1
here is how i did my mk3 console swap il come and explain it later.

if you look at the top where there are 2 notches cut out on the left and right. those are not needed dont cut that part leave it flat DO NOT CUT NOTCHES.

picture showing how much was cut out of the mk2 console.

this is showing whats left of the plastic brace that holds the console to the shifter box.

where the rear bracket is mounted to hold the rear of the console to the tunnel.

    side view.

console mocked up and bolted down.

    side view of mockup.

bracket and how i mounted it. as you can see i traced the bottom of the console when it was on the tunnel and from there guessed where the bracket would go.

view from through my glass moonroof.

I roughed all the holes and used self taping screws. when you do this swap you will have to bend your seatbelt clip twards the seat and relocate the seat adjustment knob to the other side of the seat because it rubs on the console and will not be able to be adjusted because lack of room. it is a pain in the ass to do this and i did a half assed job of relocating the knobs but i will post some pics.

edit car is no longer an auto

il have some pics of the seats in soon and how i mounted everything soon. even know i relocated the seat knobs and bent the seat belt clips it still rubs like a ***** but, hey im the one driving so i only need to move the seat once to adjust it to my liking.

what parts are you using from the mk3. i know the center and rear consoles but what about boots and such.

  9. 12-01-2005 09:59 PM #9
you use bolth the shift and ebrake boots from an mk3. also as stated above my seats are in but it takes alot of halfed ass work to get them in and even so they rub up the shiz and are a pain to adjust il snap some pics later.

switch the drivers and passenger seat

  12. 12-01-2005 10:52 PM #12
doesnt work that way the track wont work and the seat belt clip would be on the outside making it imposible for the belt to hold you in.

swapinbg the seats will not work. the seatbelt buckel will be on the on the door side making it useless also the lever to adjust the seat will be on the rong side and not work. YOU CANT SWAP THE SEATS

to prerhaps save time and maybe prevent anything from going on, you could use velcro strips to hold the centre console, it doesnt need to be that solid, if your elbow is pushing it down, and it seems the front part with the cupholders is braced by the remainder of the mk2 console so. i have a raddo dash and id like to see what i could get into there as far as a centre console cuz the raddo center console sucks

You could always cut the console right after the shifter and plastic weld an end piece so it looks clean. Not a fan of the rear part and the seat adjustment having to be relocated.

I wonder, is the texture of the plastic on the mk3 console the same as the mk2 plastic? Mk2 plastic is quite cheap, is the mk3 plastic as cheap?

I got no problems with the seats rubbing against the console. All i did was swap the backs so the adjuster knobs are on the outside edges now and they're fine. They're also only stock seats, are you running Recaros? cause i could see them rubbing a little.....

Any update folks? I recently just picked up a black MK3 console to try this out myself. I have recaros and want to know if I can swap the seat backs...I tend to adjust my seat alot while I drive. I don't mind if its difficult, I just want it to be possible to adjust my seat back.
