Thread: OT <$10K to spend on a watch, what would you buy?

1. 12-13-2005 08:57 PM #101

The only thing i dont like about my watch is the fact that at the end of a 30 or 28 day month I have to set the date.

the old man bought one of those gold rolex daytonas a while back... i'm not sure how much it was, but i guess it couldn't be too much more than the $10k budget. very fkn sexy watch, kinda heavy though

If it was an 18ct Daytona, you're looking at much much much more than that.

As much as I love Swiss and German chronometers, nothing beats the accuracy of a basic quartz movement.
They're mechanical watches, which require maintenance to run smoothly and accurately.
Gaining 5 min every 24 hrs is a bit much though. Perhaps you should take it back to Tag or a reputable watchmaker to get it regulated

Warren G and Nate Dogg should be able to do that for you.

well from memory, it's all gold with black dials... whether it's 18ct or not, i don't know. i'm pretty ignorant when it comes to jewellery.

Daytonas have gone up a lot in price in the last 5 years. Blame us crazy Honkies driving up the price!
This has been ever since they chaged to an in-house movement from a Zenith movement. The older ones are more valuable that the current ones as the Zenith movement is considered 'better'....

I want one of these as en everyday watch. Purely, because my name is on the dial

If I had a few grand to spend, I'd buy something like this:

It's not a rolex, but this was my 20th birthday present

Just be sure to smile as you do it. I cant guarantee you will be able to safely enter or leave. Shall we say, enter at own risk. The front door will be open.

I'd travel to Bangkok, pick up a good knock off and spend the other $9,950 on getting my dick enlarged.

To each their own. I have always liked watches and I understand not everyone share this. As long as you have the means, what you want to spend it on is your own business.

You don't need battery with Automatic watches. Bu the problem is, if you have a few of them, you need an expensive watch winder to keep them all running.

I actually thought the last bit was directed at Klaus, and I would have supported you on it too.

My kintetic puts itself to sleep after 3 days of not being worn, however, it still calculates the time. It can stay asleep for four years and as soon as it wakes up, it resets itself to the correct time.

I don't mind some of the Oris designs … are they an okay watch … they're certainly much closer to a realistic option for me, well, the ones I've seen anyway.
