I saw these pics on here a while ago of VW's factory storage garage in Germany that was a 15-20 story cylindrical glass building. I tried searching and I cant find the pics. Wondering if someone could help me out and post a couple for me.

I could only image the feeling of being in the vehicle going up towards the top, and looking out the side window and seeing absolutely nothing next to you.....

I would only assume someone drives the cars from the lift to the parking space...so somoene felt this at some point

I was just at the Dresden factory 3 days ago. It's amazing when you look at that cylinder and see nothing but Phaetons and Bentleys. Too bad it was closed and I had to catch a train ASAP.

We have a post in the Phaeton forum that provides more info (and quite a good tour) of the Transparent Factory in Dresden - the link is here: A photo tour of the Transparent Factory in Dresden.

Astonishing. Puts every other car facility to shame.

Imagine if the same effort were put to use bringing new and appropriate product to the market in a timely manner...

    Exactly!!!

A fancy factory means **** if your taking it up the ass in some of your biggest markets!

"I don’t want the company to be driven by numbers. I want it to be driven by making better cars and contributing to society. That will turn into profit, which we can use to develop better cars. That should be the cycle, and that will, as a result, build a company with a strong foundation."

You eluded to, but failed to mention the word quality. I would take outdated if it was well built and reliable. Porsche has been a behind in design, but at least produces a durable, quality product.

Well, seeing as how the factory is going to produce Bentley Flying Spurs because the England factory is overworked just trying to keep up with Continental GT production, I think it was a well timed investment. Keep in mind which car both Bentleys owe their roots to as well.

There's never been a Phaeton glut in this or any market. In Germany, they are selling just fine. In Canada, they are all sold as of two or three weeks ago. When I got my '05 in November, there were two new '05s available in a 300-mile radius, and only three '06es.

I know it is probably level, and there are undoubtedly safeguards, but I can help wincing at the idea of
someone forgetting to set a handbrake on the 19th floor.

correct me if i'm wrong...but i don't think the handbrake is entirely neccessary with the engine turned off and the car in park. as far as i know, no phaetons come from the factory with a manual tranny....

You may be right about the Phaeton tranny availability, but I see a whole lot of other vehicles in there as well.

so to ask a question from above that was not answered

how does the elevator work, does a driver ride up with it and pull it into the space

or is it all done by the robot?

They say it is totally automated... so, my guess would be that each car is in fact on a 'tray' (for lack of a better word) that gets picked up by the central elevator. I see wheel chocks on the Eurovan in that picture.

If you are talking about the Dresden factory you can just show up for a tour.

You will need to buy a Phaeton or Flying Spur though to get the full behind the scenes tour.
