They are the perfect age 26-27 and will/should be entering their prime but IMO Hughes has to get out of pitching at Yankee stadium and Joba just needs a fresh start.

You might be right about Hughes.......but Joba can go **** himself. He's a cocky *******.

Thats the thing. I dont think he was overatted. I think the Yankees jerked him around a bit AND he has a HUGE EGO issue.

Remember when he came up just a few months removed from college Painting with 100 plus mph fastballs and that nasty slider?

The Yankees foolishly bouned him around as a starter and bullpen guy. But that doesnt excuse his piss poor attitude and work ethic.

Remember when Hughes came up and had a couple of near no hitters and that curve ball was just filthy. Well he had injury issues so you cant fault him for that. Thats just the way it goes for pitchers. But what about him being a fat ass?

Both of these guys get to pitch in NY a place where they have the chance to make more money then they could dream about and your telling me you cant hit a freakin treadmill in the offseason?

I just think when both of them hit FA and the offers just arent what they thought they would be they will become very good pitchers to try and earn that next contract.

Hghes will be AJ Burnett 2.0 if he finds his way onto a small market team. Joba will never realize his potential.

Couple of fun camparisons [to me anyway]

    Former Angels Outfielder

    Wells .273 .345 .858 OPS 10 HR 24 RBI

    Current Angels Outfielder

    Hamilton .216 .271 .622 OPS 5 HR 12 RBI

    Just for Fun

    Current Yankee 1st baseman

    Overbay .264 .301 .794 7 HR 25 RBI

    Current Angels 1st baseman

    Puljos .241 .314 .732 7 HR 25 RBI

Another fun stat. Mariano Rivera has more saves then the Angels have wins

Why I find this so funny is because I dont hear much outrage over those foolish contracts. If the Yankees or Sox signed those deals it would be on the cover of espn every day.

The Yankees got ripped for giving Arod that deal AFTER he won multiple MVPs. Then after signing that deal he was an MVP in the playoffs being the main reason the Yankees won in 09.

Nobody would deny the deal looks terrible now givin his age but the Angels had the benefit of seeing what happens when you give guys like Arod these long term deals.

So is Arod a dbag. Yes. But atleast the Yankee got some return on their investment and I am sure when he comes back at 40 years old he can hit .216 like Josh Hamilton.

That is if David Adams doesnt take his job

Also Hafner misses a few games with shoulder tightness and comes back crushing the ball. @ hr in 2 games

17 in a row for Mo, longest streak to start the season minus one year when he had 28 straight.

Yea the Red Sox dumped Overbay and within 24 hours the Yankees gave him a 10 day contract and he is putting up similar power numbers then Napoli. Both have 7 HR [Napoli almost double the doubles]

    Another fun "stat"

This time last year Yankees record 21-21 last place in AL east. This year 28-16 2nd best winning % in the AL. And last year they came back to win the division

In summary, just because a team spends like crazy, it doesn't necessarily translate into success. Yankees are the living proof of this in recent years, and Angels, Blue Jays, and a few other teams are experiencing this so far in the early going of the season.

On the flip side, you can win without a bunch of no names and veteran players past their prime. See Tampa Bay in recent years and Yankees of 2013 (so far).

    ).
IMO Cashman doesnt get enough credit. Last time he had a big spending spree they won the WS.

Has he ever signed a big money player that was flat out a dud?

The only part I really hate about this team is Ben Fransico

Billy "Moneyball" Beane spoke of this in a recent ESPN article.....saying he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Pavano is a good one or I should say

Boesch is tuff. I love his swing but he just doesnt get any consitent playing time.

Boesch had that nice run to start 2011 or 2012.......then fizzled out. Hopefully he gets some more AB's and can do the same for this team. He was hitting like .330 during that run I think.

Boesch's swing is really pretty. He just hasnt figured out how to be consistent with it. This is the first year I really feel proud of what Cashman has done, though we should all admit, he's been remarkably lucky. A good example...Even he says he didnt notice "antything special" about Vernon Wells that would have led him to believe he'd be playing like this. He was just desprerate for a veteran hitter who could play the OF. So a mix of bargain shopping and luck has put them in a great position. My fear is that... as guys come off the DL they lose some of the chemistry theyve built. This team has a gritty, underdog mentality because its made up of a lot of veteran cast offs.

So you're saying bench Tex and Arod? Works for me.

Jeter won't get benched......I'm thinking he won't be back till late August / early September, if he even does return this season. For him to have had a setback, and everyone be so hush hush about status, etc.....I think they are covering up something IMO.

I wouldn't call him a genius for signing Wells, but I think its a pretty good indication that Cashman wasn't punting on the season and for that I give him credit.

He could have said that with Teix,Jeter,Granderson, and Arod on the shelf what difference would there be between say Wells and Boesch? Nobody would have faulted him for doing nothing right?

I am glad you brought up Boeschs swing. Because I have been thinking about the swings on this team and I gotta say they almost all drive me crazy with how unorthodox they are all.

Boesch looks Griffey esk but arent Ichiro and Youk text book definitions on what not to teach your kids. Gardner slashing at the ball drives me nuts as does Canos very lazy [looking] approach. Wells and Hafner look like the tin man when they swing lol. Yet it all seems to work.

I think they only guy on the team with a "text book" swing is Arod?

Here's Jeter's ...on a serious note, this scout might as well have had a crystal ball
