That's Jackie Robinson. That's why I colored it lighter blue. It was universally retired throughout baseball like 2 years ago. Mo's one of the last, if not the last guy wearing it, because he had the number since he joined the league. They'll be two #42s out there in a couple of years.

So Boston Homer Gammons said that Wang if healthy can be 1 of the 10 best pitchers in the AL and maybe the best pitcher in their rotation. Then the 2 guys on ESPN's Cold Pizza had RJ down for 20-22 wins.

I hope they are both right. Put Wang down for 23 W's

Best pitcher in the Ro does'nt say much about the Yankees rotation, 1 of the best 10 does'nt say much about anyone else in the AL....RJs knee will fall off before he gets 22 wins

RJ's knee really shut him down last year. He only was top 5 in the AL in innings pitched and top 10 in baseball. Then in the 2nd half his age really slowed him down as he went 8-2 with a 3.30 ERA and held openents to .208 ERA.

His best stat though is about a 3rd of his wins came against the Sox 5-0

There will come a day when guys like RJ, Clemens, and Mo can't get it done because of age but after watching them all last year even if they have a little decline this year they will still be very good.

Al only had 1 start [a big one] against the Sox and he won it. He did pitch in 4 games total and did very well in 13.2 innings he has a 1.42 era

    9. 02-21-2006 03:16 PM #219
Oh I remember that one start. shut em down for 7+ innings.

Reports are that the Yanks will be picking up Shef's option. I hope they do, so we dont have to hear him complain at all this year.

They will pick it up if Sheff has a "Sheff like" year if not they probably won't. Nothing set in stone. I think the only way he doesn't have a Sheff like year is because of possible injuries in which case they won't pick him up.

Cash "Let's play this thing through and see where it goes. I'm not saying we'll do anything soon. I'm not saying we're not going to do anything until the very end. I don't know yet."

Brian did a good job of getting to Sheff early and letting him know they are interested in keeping him around.

    12. 02-22-2006 11:58 AM #222
I'd like to see them keep sheff around. 13M isn't that bad for 30hr's and 120rbi's. Mussina's option however is 17M for 07. He'd have to win 20+ for that to be considered.

Of course it is, and he gives the same "rally the troops" speech pretty much every Spring.

More bad Pavano news. I'll spare you the Post's cynical stance, but I'm sure they're jsut fishing for some baseball news.

Whatever, I'd rather see Small get some starts in the rotation than that putz anyways. Im sick of his routine.

If Pavano misses any starts my guess is it will be Wright in the rotation and not Small.

Until he gets hurt, gives up seven runs in the first, or take a line drive to his mellon...then Small will step in.

Well there were a few statements from Torre and Cash, which basically said that it's till way to early to start worrying about this. Also since the Yanks have a ton of off days in the first month. Cash said they could technically have a 4 man rotation untill April 15th and still keeping everyon on 4 days rest.

No not me. My wife will be a couple weeks from giving birth to our first Yankee fan, so she won't be able to go and I don't want to be to far away should anything go down.

Hopefully I can still make a couple games this year!!

That's just Shef being Shef. Hey, I coined a new phrase!

You really can't blame NY for not signing Vlad though. Too many concerns about his back at the time. Shef is just as good of a hitter (he's a more complete hitter in my book) he's just insane.

As for Vlad...bad back and has a bigger strike zone then Soriano.

Yes Shef wines a lot but its because he wants to stay, not because he wants to go.

Tell that to the Dodgers and every other team he's left in a dramatic way. He's one of the players out there plays mostly for the money, and that's why I've never been a big fan of his.

I could really care less how he acted on other teams. He wants to be here, he plays hard, and he plays hurt.

I don't know, I think he plays more to earn respect then dollars. I was a big fan of his and I still do love him in terms of what he can do in the batters box and just his presence in the batters box. For me my opinion of him went down at about the same time as it did for Giambi, and you know why.
