Thread: Official Howard Stern Thread (Fans Only)

  1. 01-13-2006 01:37 AM #1
LETS KEEP THIS THREAD STRICTLY FOR HOWARD FANS TO DISCUSS HIS NEW SHOW... IF YOU ARE A STERN HATER, PLEASE GO HERE TO BASH HIM: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2377655

I am curious to hear what you guys think of his show now that he has moved over to Sirius? I personally think it has gotten better now that they don't get censored, and they have done a good job at not making it too crude. Lets hear your opinions!

George Takai has done an excellent job all week, I hope he stops in more often, his laugh makes you roll. Plus the fact that he thought it really was Arnold calling in on Tuesday.

Its gonna be kinda sad to see George leave this week. He was great. I just heard on my way in to work that Dave Letterman called in (the real one) and offered George to announce the Top Ten list tonight. It sounded as if it was a go.

It would be great if he got more stuff to do. He seems to have a great sense of humor and can even poke fun at himself. Artie and him make a wierd but great combo.

    Stern's pirated,
    naughty bits air

    Brooklyn, N.J. get show free

    BY DAVID HINCKLEY
    DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Turns out Howard Stern isn't completely gone from terrestrial radio after all.

Illegal pirate radio broadcasts of his Sirius Satellite program have been heard this week - for free - on broadcast radio, including 95.1 FM in Brooklyn and 101.5 FM in North Jersey.

That presented a potentially startling situation yesterday for listeners in the Newark/Secaucus area who suddenly heard Stern replaying the obscenity-laced Pat O'Brien tapes and song parodies using words that can't be printed here.

Such language is legal on Sirius, which has no Federal Communications Commission regulations on its content, but quite illegal on over-the-air broadcast radio.

Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly said yesterday that the company had heard nothing about Stern popping up on free radio, and said he would have no comment on it.

FCC spokesman David Fiske, whose agency Stern accuses of driving him from terrestrial radio, said he didn't know of any complaints about the apparent pirate transmissions.

"Pirate broadcasting is something we take very seriously," Fiske said, "although the content per se would be of no concern to us in the case of Howard Stern, since the FCC does not regulate satellite radio."

Program director Eric Johnson of WKXW in Trenton, which broadcasts legally on 101.5 FM, said he had gotten no listener calls, "so the pirate must have been working in a small area."

Johnson said unknown pirates used the 101.5 FM frequency in Brooklyn this summer. "I don't know what you do about it," he said. "You'd like to catch them, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Fortunately, they come and go."

The 95.1 FM frequency is vacant.

Technologically, said Tom Taylor of the trade magazine Inside Radio, it's "very easy" to take Stern's satellite program and transmit it on a broadcast frequency. Anyone receiving the Sirius transmission could download it to a computer or other receiving device, then broadcast it through an inexpensive antenna.

"You only need about $1,500 worth of equipment," Taylor said. "It's illegal, of course, but it's attractive to some people because even if you're caught, FCC enforcement can be a slow process."

Several dozen pirate stations operate regularly if erratically around the New York area, many playing Caribbean and other genres of music that don't have a regular home on city radio.

Fiske said the FCC doesn't comment on investigations or pending actions, though he suggested the country's largest pirate problem now is in Southern Florida.

I think the show has been great. George made an excellent addition. Too bad he won't be on there full time. Maybe he can make some guest spots here and there.

At first I was surprised there weren't any guests really on. I thought there'd be a big hoopla. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was nice just having the old gang back. All the hoopla is sure to come. I'm sure they enjoyed just getting back into it, learning the equipment, etc.

They also said this morning they plan to have a lot of the groups back in to perform, since they can't use the tapes of their live performances from testicular radio. That'll be sweet!

Check Sirius's website. They likely have hardware that is portable but can be docked in your vehicle.

"I don’t want the company to be driven by numbers. I want it to be driven by making better cars and contributing to society. That will turn into profit, which we can use to develop better cars. That should be the cycle, and that will, as a result, build a company with a strong foundation."

Yeah, they made a point to try and "protect the innocent" when it came to Sal's story. But, with the info he did give, I'm sure his family knows who he was watching.

Robin's story, while it may not be very shocking, was very entertaining to listen to. She was about 19, living at home, and would just wake up in the middle of the night with the urge. She'd just run through the house trying to find something to use. Cucumbers were too big, a carrot was too small. Hotdogs were too small and had to be defrosted. She finally found some nice sausages that worked. She said she'd just run up and down the stairs experimenting until she found something to use. Then, when she was done, she'd have to expose of it. The comments the gang made were great!

She said when she was done, she'd basically be throwing away a complete dinner along with a salad.

I have a feeling the guys will get good use of this info for years to come!

I was wondering the same thing. People still call in and make fun of his nose. Maybe he wanted it to be subtle so that no one would notice and make fun of him? But if so, then what's the point?

Yeah the O&A fans and XM fans bombarded the other thread and nobody could say anything positive about Stern.

What did you guys think about the revelations? I think alot of them were dissappointing for how much buildup there was.
