I love michael Lau's stuff, I got a couple of Gardeners (the one below) and a few others. also a couple
of munnys, cardboys and other stuff. I got the cardboys about a year ago in London and found out Maharishi
did some stuff too, so I got more into it and started looking at stuff..

to those wondering, these are basically designer toys or vinyl figures/collectibles that are very
popular and a big part of urban culture in Japan and now also in the states and UK for example.
there are some well known designers and also clothing brands that collaborate in designing these.

I am not a huge toy guy, but I love the graff culture and all the art mags. I subscribe to Jux, Beautiful Decay, Mass Appeal etc. I am a HUGE Obey and Shepard Fairey fan. I have mad prints, books, 1 or 2 toys of his design. I also have 2 Montana Hardcore cans one signed by Tony "Sub" Curanaj and the other signed by Cycle. I was lucky enough to meet these guys at Marc Ecko's Getting Up Block Party in NYC this past April... It was probably one of the illest events ever. Well worth the 8 hour drive! I have mad pics if anyone wants to see em e-mail me at Matt@DowntimeDesigns.com and check out my site http://www.DowntimeDesigns.com

  23. 02-01-2006 01:52 AM #23
I have been lucky enough to actually paint with Sub once. Hes a real cool guy- I also met cycle, emit, and Jive, in fact Jive put me down in IYQ Im not big into Obey Giant, im more fan of the real LA Giant, before obey giants time. Thats just me- 8 hour drive to goto the block party? Damn dude block party aint worth it, from my experiences

By the way- there is a famous graffiti artist amongst the mk3 crowd..

yep his dub is sick and so are his walls, I saw some of his and his crew's work in the new book "Graffiti World" If you get a chance to check that book out it's amazing. I'll be buying it once funds are flowing a little better.

My curiosity is piqued, I have had the Graffiti World book since it was released... would you mind just dropping a page number, I'm not gonna call anyone out, I am just curious.

The Block Party was a one time event and it was completely worth it man, I really had an amazing time and met alot of cool ass people.

I am not familiar with LA Giant, if you could enlighten me it would be appreciated. I am always looking to learn.

here are the munnies that were submitted for the kidrobot makin' munny contest.

I dont get the winner on kidrobots competition, did the dude melt the whole dunny or something? IMO there were many better looking ones, like this for example was really cool:

there were some great entries in that kidrobot contest.

  33. 02-09-2006 02:00 PM #33
yeah. i wasn't too impressed with the winner either. there were a lot of other munnies that i though should have walked away with first prize.

  34. 02-09-2006 03:10 PM #34
you gotta give it to the guy though, that was damn original. i think that's what they were looking for is a complete twist on the figure instead of just sick paint. there were many many that were good enough for production in my opinion.

any vinyl you guys looking forward to coming out soon? I've got my eye on . . .

^ yea but I think it sort of screws up the idea of customizing when someone practically builds a new one, I'd much rather take part in a competition where your supposed to keep the original form and just customize it
