This riding caper is quite enjoyable. But starting out on hills is an initiation of fire. Best I've been able to do is Springwood to Faulconbridge - 4.5km and 105m elevation felt like a complete tour stage! It's going to be a long journey til I can do Springwood - Ktown!

It's good! The hill up to PITS is a real prick though, just a huge drag. But riding away from PITS was awesome, as the road had just dried properly so I could give it a good poke.
Try riding from Hornsby/Berowra down to Brooklyn and back for a decent ride. I'm no climber, and just tonked away at my own pace and I never felt like the hills were too difficult.

Nice one, Ciaran. I would love to ride that road. Looks like a great course.
I have regained form completely just about. Hammered out a 30km TT @ 37.3kmh. Amazing what a difference having the old bike setup back can make. 2.5mm on the crank length and it screwed me. I don't get it.
Meanwhile, I am still trying to convince my girl to get a roadie. I had her in the bike shop on a Merida Juliet roadie with 105 and drop bars. She liked it... Fingers crossed.

You're not talking about a climb out of Berowra Waters by any chance, are you ?
Here is the segment.

Which, whilst not as nasty as "Otford Rd Wall":

is still quite long.
Happy to do a ride as soon as my legs are working again.![]()

Hey Steve, does your missus ride already ? I am trying to get mine to get a bike, who hasn't been riding since her early childhood but I am afraid she is going to be absolutely terrified getting on a road bike.. What I am thinking instead, is to get one of those folding bikes, such as this Tern.
She could ride it for a while until she gets more comfortable and then hopefully, put her on a roadie.

Yep. She already rides. She has a hybrid already. Tows the trailer with it sometimes. The roadie is for longer commuting and hopefully to come out with me sometimes when the kids are older. She is a definite candidate for female geometry. Needs low stand over and short cockpit.

Does anyone with Foxtel knows if Eurosport going to broadcast TdF stages live this year ?

Looking for light recommendations. Is it a case of YGWYPF? After a set of lights, suitable for early morning use, high visibility. Any recommendations?![]()

Front lights, YGWYPF. I have 2 different beam configuration sets of Ayups. There are a few good single unit lights like the Cygolite systems or this one are pretty good. This one would be OK, but wouldn't work so with with MTB as the mount system doesn't cope with intense off road riding. If you are planning off road riding, you need something like the Ayup system.
Rears are much easier, but I find the cherry bomb excellent and very visible. Knog Boomer is also a good option.
Hope it helps...

Yep, was going to suggest Knog Boomer USB rechargeables. I have two for headlights and one tail light. They're good, are rechargeable and are pretty bright.
I use two at the front, one pointed at the ground in front of me on solid and one pointed up the road on flash. Works a treat in low light.

I've got a Moon X-Power 500 for the front. Decent output for a one-piece unit. And USB rechargeable. Enough light to illuminate the roads and powerful strobe for day commuting.
For the rear, I use one of these. On a black seat post it integrates really well and the output/pattern is awesomely bright.

Bought so far for the 920 build: XX Twist Shifters, Rock Shox SID WC 120mm, Cannondale Hollowgram SL crankarms/spider, FRM XX chaintring set 40t/27t, DT Swiss 190 front hub. About to pull the pin on a 190 hub/FRM wheel set today. It's slowly taking shape...

What is this light, Mike? It might work well on my aero seat post fitting wise. But not so well if I am aiming for colour integration, unless they do white.
Only problem with having so many lights is having enough rechargeable batteries for them all. We have one each for the two chariot trailers, a spare for the chariots, one for each of my bikes (3) and 1 for Diones commuter.

It's released by Serfas. A lot of bike shops stock em and many of the staff swear by them too.
I also have a white/clear one so you're in luck.

Madness! I guess these guys are the types that motorists categorise all cyclists as in their cyclist hate rants...

I ride Chapel st and St Kilda Rd every day, so there's always a fair share of car doors swinging open on every trip. It gets the adrenaline going, but this stuff is just willful stupidity masquerading as staunchness and bravado. Fun I'm sure nonetheless.
