Just wondering what the empty fields are/was/were at Mississauga and Lakeshore Rd. It's across from the "landing" on lake shore. If you view google maps, it's clearly vacant, but something was there at one point.
I am just wondering what was there and who currently own it. Link to google for reference, switch it over to satelite mode.

Can anyone help?
Doing a little local history project on the area and I am very curious.

Basically that big piece of land/property is owned by Imperial Oil (which is Esso), it was used for some sort of a Oil Referinary or Storage, way back. Since the area became more populated with homes, and new neighborhoods, the Esso plant was closed down. Since the soil became contamiated, therefor no houses or reality develpements can go up for a min. of something like 25-30 years. Recently, city of mississuaga, is leasing the strip right along the lake, for the next 25 year, so they could extend the Lakeshore Walkway and BikePath

okay...The Texaco Refinery was built on the site of the Port Credit Brick Yard. Refinery operations began in 1932 under the name Lloyd's Refinery. Good Rich Oil Company purchased the refinery in 1935 and turned it into the largest independent oil refinery in Canada. In 1947 it was purchased by Trinidad Leaseholds and the name changed to Regent Refining Company. Texaco, then known as McColl-Frontenac, acquired ownership in 1957. As refineries closed down in various cities in the 70s, the decision was made to close the Port Credit refinery in 1985 and dismantle it after 50 years in the community.
