Is it worth going to the Dealer and having them do the "50,000 mile service"? Or just have a tune up done?
What all does the 50k service have that you cant do yourself? No point in going to a specialist or the dealer because your warranty is up anyway. The only reason to ever go to the dealer is so that you have records in case you need warranty work.
In regard to all these "tune-ups" and xxx mile services... they are all B.S! My local VW dealer has been hounding me to get my 30,000 mile service done. In case you were wondering, a 30k service is just an oil change, check windshield washer fluid, and lube the locks. It is such a rip off. I do all my oil changes myself and am sure as hell not gonna pay them all kinds of money to "check" out a bunch of crap.
The big services are every 40k. Keep in mind that you are only changing the oil, filter, air filter, spark plugs, and pollen filter, everything else is juct being "checked" not replaced. Trust me, do it yourself and save loads of money!
The "checks" that chances are were not done anyway....
I was told all my filters were changed after a service a while ago.
I opened the intake and there was the dirtiest k&n filter looking back at me......Thing had been in there for a while by the look of it (original owner must have put it in).
this brings up a question i have. i'm due for my 15,000 (oil change...yeah, that's it). i'm currently under warranty obviously. is it necessary at all that i have VW, or even any other company do this? cuz seriously, it's a 10-min deal that any nutjob can do. and i honestly don't wanna pay what i don't have to.
keep your reciepts for the oil and filter. and what ever tune up work you do. that way they cant try to sell you something you dont need. if you have any engine issues like oil light coming on your warranty will cover nothing youll pay out of your pocket.
