We did this in 'suspension' with the mkiv's, but I think everyone here is capable and mature enough to leave it here to start as it'll get more replies, and more replies = more samples, and better info.

Every recent VW spring has a color code on it. After extensive research, we were able to determine spring rates for quite a few of the availble color codes. If we get enough info and spend some time on it, we can create a similar chart for the MKV chassis.

(for anyone curious, here is part of the work on the old chart: http://www.peterpyce.com/Shine...s.jpg ) VWVortex user 'pyce' was instrumental in organizing the original MKIV effort.

Let's start this off with the basics:

    - Model
    - Trim (package 0,1,2, etc...)
    - Manual or DSG
    - Stock wheel size
    - Build Date
    - Front spring color code
    - Rear spring color code

    So here's my info:

    - GTI
    - Package 1
    - Manual
    - 17"
    - 01/06
    - Red / Red / White / White
    - Blue / Yellow / Yellow / Yellow

Once we get enough info and can figure out the rates -- then it becomes easier to know what can swap in and out to stay 'oem' and still perhaps change the ride characteristics. If you don't have all of the info, get it -- and then post. Once we get it rolling I can move it to 'Suspension.'

hate to necro-bump, but can anyone confirm color codes on their 06 EU GTI front/rears?

What about week 22+ 07 NA?

It appears 07 GLIs are starting to show up lowered at dealerships.

Below is a post from jagerpower, a new '07 Deep Black GLI, 6MT, Pkg #2 owner whose springs are most certainly color coded differently than the 06 "jack-o-sky" stock springs.

    Bump with question.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the lowered 07 GLI springs yet?

I was thinking if I install the OEM 07 GLI lowered springs on my 06, it will be less likely for the dealer to notice the difference and void the warranty.

i've attached some etka pages from both euro and us spec gti's in case anyone wants to reference the colors with part numbers in this thread:

    none
    Tiptronic
    16" Standard Alloys
    10/06
    Lavendar(pink)/Lavendar(pink)/white/white
    white/orange/orange

Come on lets get more posts for this thread! I'm curious how other Jettas and Rabbits are sprung. You can see the front colors easy and the rears you can get by reaching a small digital cam up under the car from the front of the rear tires. You may need several tries on the rears. Jacking would probably help.

    All right, here's mine:

    - TDI
    - Special Edition (mix of package 1 &2)
    - DSG
    - 16"
    - 10/06
    - Pink / Pink / White / White (top of wheel well 26 3/4" from ground)
    - White / Yellow / Yellow (top of wheel well 27 3/8" from ground)

The rear is almost a full 1/2" higher than the front...WTF? I look like a GD 4x4! especially with the 16".

Maybe Santa will bring some nice H&R sports

  21. 12-19-2006 02:54 PM #21
So any reason why there are so many different combinations of spring rates for one make of car? Seems a little to me.

  22. 12-19-2006 02:57 PM #22
    - GTI
    - Package 2
    - DSG
    - 17"

    - notsure - blue/orange i think.

I lucked out on seeing the rears..just crawled under the back. It would appear we are psychic spring brothers:

    2007 Jetta 2.0T
    very late model
    17" stock Avignons
    front: pink, pink, white, white
    rear: orange, orange, white

...or is that white orange orange? do we read ascending or descending the spring?

    Late 2007 GTI 4 door
    6spd manual
    Package 2
    18s

    Stock springs:
    Front ~ red/red/white/white
    Rear ~ blue/orange

    Just bought Euro springs:
    Front ~ blue/red/green/green
    Rear ~ blue/pink/yellow/yellow

My question, and I'd sure appreciate any input:

Why is there a second yellow dot on my Euro rear springs as opposed to the single yellow dot on the springs listed above -- and will it make any difference?

    THANKS!

    pete
