    Thread: Navigation system

Does anyone have this installed in their car? If so how well does it work compared to an aftermarket setup (kenwood, alpine, pioneer etc.) Does the factory Nav system have voice direction (as in tell you when to turn)? If not do any of the other Nav systems have this option. http://24.159.133.44/jetta/jetta1/125971_9_full.jpg
My Aunt's Acura Nav system turns down the radio and some female voice tells you when you are getting close to your turn/exit. It also turns you stereo down when you're receiving a phone call.

You can't do it. The system is designed for using CD's with GIS data on them. And, since these discs are not available for the US, you can't make the system work here. Also, the audi cds are not compatible (thats what other people have said) either.

Well, we'll find out soon enough if the Factory NAV system works in the United states. I ordered my Navigation retrofit kit Friday and it should be here Wednesday. After all the research that I have done The only variable is the map databases, but I have a few tricks in mind to overcome that problem if it arises.

Just make your own...probally much cheaper.
Get an LCD and a nav system (like Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine).
Here's my LCD TV. I'm thinking about adding a Nav soon.

Defeats the purpose of a factory modification.....

From $800 - $2,000 (new)....the price depends on shopping around. I've seen a used Pioneer system, with nav CD's, sell on Ebay for $500 before. I didn't have the cash at the time or I'd of bid $505.

Where did you order the retrofit from? I'm interested in this for my S4 as well.
I'm thinking that the system uses the same CDs as those used by the Audi system. Blaupunkt makes both systems. Why would the GIS data be any different for the two systems?

Because most likely in europe the VW CD's are going to be cheaper and so the audi people can make more money.

The Car has the Factory installed NAV system, and the "High" insturment cluster. The cluster has the display that gives the "arrow" type directions also.

Exactly the reason why I believe the US Audi discs will work in the VW Navi. It's all made by Blaupunkt.

Does anyone know of plans for VW to offer navigation in the USA as an option? I've searched the forum and can't find any indication.

There's been talk of it, along with HIDs.
I'd like to know if this works too. Although nobody's mapped the area I live in, I still think a factory nav system in a dub would be cool.

My NAV system has arrived, I installed the headunit last night, Everything plugged in, I have a few minor coding issues. The FM is set to .1 increments, US is .2 and AM is set to 9Khz instead of 10Khz. The AUDI Discs DO NOT WORK, But I believe I came up with a solution. I'll keep everyone posted. I do the final wiring and the antenna install tonight. I brought the digital camera so I will take many pictures and document the install so others can repeat my success.

      [DROOL...]
THIS would be one seriously sweet mod!!!
If this can be done sucessfully, it would be the best thing to happen to a MK4 interior in a long time!!! (j/k)
But seriously, that looks HOT!!! Does anybody know what else they can do? (the LCD screen part)
