    They're tinted.

The angles make it a bit difficult to tell, though.

It looks like alot but it really isn't.

Mine took about ten minutes total, and that was with a couple minutes built in for shootin' it with the neighbor.

Awesome! In the first pic, when you say "pull side mirror forward", are you referring to just the painted "shell" piece? Meaning you grab it from the top and just pull towards the front of the car to open up the gap at the bottom that you stuck the screwdriver into?

I'm talking about the WHOLE unit, you will not be able to put the screwdriver anywhere without doing it. Just grab the mirror and pull it towards the front of the car, you will see the opening on the bottom. Make sure you use a wide tipped screwdriver though, not a thin one or you could possibly run it through the top of the case.

A buddy of mine tried to do it as per the instructions that come with the indicators...he broke a few tabs

Thanks for this thread - I did the install today and it helped a lot. I had a bit of a chuckle on the passenger side, though. There was one extra screw on that side in my car. It was in a hole that was meant only to have an "alignment peg" poking through it (hopefully that makes sense). The guy that put my car together must have had too many at lunch that day. If you look at the fourth pic sown in the tutorial, you'll see what I'm talking about. Next to the screw on the left side of the pic, there's a little alignment nub sticking up through the metal. There was a screw through that little nub. I just left it out when I put it all back together.

    Nice!

Of course I didn't have this when I did mine,....but oh well.

NOTE: In picture #4 you can access the back of the outer casing clips with a pic. This willprevent any damgae being done to the cover when you pop it off.

So the order of work would be:

    1. Pop out glass.
    2. Remove mirror adjustment unit - torx15 screws(x3).
    3. Use pick to unclip(x2) mirror cover - pop off mirror cover.
    4. Unscrew lower cover - torx15 screws(x2)
    5. Unscrew mirror indicator housings - torx15 screws(x2).
    6. Unplug wires as needed.
    7. Reverse order reinstall.

I'm thinking about putting smoked headlights and these smoked mirror turn indicators on my Campanella White 06 TDI. Haven't been able to find any pics with the products on a white 06 Jetta. What do y'all think, will these look good with white? I think so, but didn't wanna order without at least asking. Thanks.

Not hard, but it can be tricky. If your not carefull it would be easy to break some bits.

It is an easy project. I pulled the actual mirror off first.....then I detached the painted part. It makes it easier and you do not have to worry about scratching the car. I posted a how to on GolfMKV.com on this a while back. It is strange how you have to dismantle the entire thing just to replace the blinkers. LOL

can someone please help me. I am attempting to get the mirror cover off and cannot do it. I've removed the mirror and detatched the clip on the outside edge but cannot for the life of me get this thing to "just pry off" it won't budge. I'm looking for detailed instructions how to remove it, ie, where am i sticking the flathead? towards the top of the housing, just inside? any help would be greatly appriciated this is very frustrating

    Installed pic:

I did one indicator the first way and one this way - this way was easier. I had a hell of a time getting the cover off the first way and it seemed pretty neanderthal to me, imho, and I broke the glass (luckily the aspherical replacements should be on their way shortly).

Another thing to do is remove the final tab from the indicator BEFORE removing the plug and replacing the plug before replacing the indicator - MUCH easier step.

Thanks to all contributors on this DIY, I'd have never figured it out otherwise - those crazy Germans obviously didn't want us swapping these out
