Do you have any problems with calers hearing your voice with the mic in that location?

So far the mic level is OK...It's only been in for a day, so I will test it over the next few weeks to see, and may move it if need be.

Yeah, I'd also consider a new location for the mic if you plan on using your central air vent at all. The air coming out would most likely produce some level of interference.

I forgot to say above that I agree: that's an impressive write-up!

Another question: do you have to reach for the buttons on the display when you answer a call?

As far as the mic location, there was a guy in the Touareg threads who mounted the mic on top of his rear view mirror and ran the wiring inside the housing for the rain sensor, I think. Another possibility is to dremel a hole in the small grate that's in the overhea console, rear of the map lights, and mount the mic there.

Of course, I've never done any of this, so take it with a grain of salt!

There isn't much of a reach to press the buttons (not much more then operating the dash vent), so it works well, and keeps the display in a convenient view.

I decided on the mic placement on top of the unit because I didn't want to any drilling, or modifying of the car, and quite frankly it is the easiest location and seems to be working well. I do use the dash vent, but I rarely have it cranked to 4. The LCD may also be deflecting the air somewhat, as you can see from the image that the mic is set a little back on the display

Great write up... this needs to be a sticky!

    Great level of detail!

I am guessing those of us with the steering wheel button wont get functionality with this?

I am still scratching my head why VW put it on the wheel!

Like having a Ferrari with no motor... well not exactly.

Why do people remove images and DIY websites when they KNOW people are going to want to see them?
