I love this shot. The fence and the wheels in the shot bring it all together. Hands down my new fav wheels.

I should be getting a B5 wagon here soon and looking at putting some wheels on it. What sizes and offsets work without rubbing. I am guess that just about any 17 will work, but was wondering more about 18x8's or 8.5 and 19x8 or 8.5 both with offsets in the 40's. Will these work alright? The car will not be dropped, just maybe a small drop to fill the wheel wells.

      Thanks

For those widths, stay in the 30 to 35et range. IMO, 40's would look appear too far into the wells.

Ok I was just basically looking at getting some MB AMG wheels and I think that they were 18x8 and 8.5 in the rear with et's of 40 and 44.

So I will find something different or get some 5-10mm spacers

    12. 11-20-2006 05:08 PM #187
fyi mine are 19x8.5 and x9.5 et43, there is a slight bit of rubbing on the pass side wheelwell liner, i'm talking cleaning-off-the-dirt rubbing, no plastic damage

speaking of bags what are some of the kits eryone is running on the b5.5 wagons. And price. I used to have an 86 s-10 blazer on bags and boy do I miss that. It would be a dream come true to lay the wagon.

any really high quality setup will cost $$, retail on mine was $3200ish

passats are tricky, there isnt much room to work around the front suspension, on my 19's i can sit the fenders on the tires, but on my 15's i'm a full inch lower and can drive without touching the fenders. i'm switching to wide 18's on small tires to go low. and i'm shortening the rear mounts to even it out an inch in the back.

Whoa....does the above price include the install.....I was thinking about 2500$ for parts. What size air line are you running 1/2"? I cant wait to see pics of the new wheels and lower rear end. ps do you have any pics with it all the way up in 4x4 mode? Also any pics at ride height?

nope, i did the install with a friend, it was for sure a learning experience, but i think i did a pretty good job. over the winter i'll be re-routing some lines and going to 2 slim tanks. i'm running 1/4" lines for 2 reasons, 1. they are much smaller than 1/2" and much easier to run through the car, and 2. they allow for a smoother, slower operation and a smoother ride.

the rear wont be coming down too much, i hate reverse rake, but i'd like to be able to drive at a higher psi in the rear when i get my new wheels.

i think i may have a pic in 4x4 mode somewhere around here, but honestly, it's only about a half-inch higher than stock up front, maybe 2 in the rear, which will change. i didnt do air to hop or go high.

head over to PassatWorld and look for a member "dub-on-dubs". He's been bagged since about 4 days after he got his variant. He's taking the bags off though. He got tired of the crap ass ride you get with bags.

edit: i just noticed you said B5.5. i don't know why you would exclude the B5s, like dub-on-dubs' is, but if you want to narrow down why don't you limit it by color, tint percentage and anything else that would make you the only one?

i know his car. you only get a crap ass ride if you use a crap ass system. i invite you to drive my car anytime you're in the east coast, rides and handles like a stock suspension with swaybars.

and why not divide b5 and b5.5? if vw thought they were different enough to give them different chassis designations, why cant i?

you know you're not the ony one who can attempt originality around here

They don't have different chassis designations, they have different BODY designations since the only differences are the front end (cosmetic) the center console, and the tails.

I didn't say I was, but I'm not going to narrow down every little thing to say I'm the first who did it or I coujld say I'm the first person ever with a A4 power steering cover on a B5.5 painted Murano Green. Bernie's had an A4 power steering cover on Kristin' B5.5 variant for a while now but mine's green so I'm the first right? See how stupid that sounds?

I'm going to have to agree with Nunz here. Although the 5 & 5.5 run the same chassis you can tell at a glance what's what. Different enough to warrant a designation change then different enough to speak of separately when it comes to mods. It's not like we're talking GLS vs GLX. In the end who really cares, anyone that wants can buy a set of bags and do it up. I was going to get a set of bags with Butteros help but decided to go with a different plan and focus more on performance.

1sikgti was the first B5 and Nunz was the only B5.5 to run bags in the US. Look now everyone is happy.

although I was lower on my coils, well not anymore But next spring is a whole nother run of "first to do's"...
