This is a thread to ask any questions about the new rules that have been implemented for the classifieds forums.

    Thanks,

How about adding the state of the parts or vehicle to the title aswell? I know this has been asked for a few times.

BTW thank you very much for making some order to the classifieds. It is alot easier to find the stuff you are looking for now.

That has already been added, note "location".

is there any reason why the cdn classifieds get locked and deleted if a price is not listed, whereas the american classifieds can put "pm me with ur offers" with no recourse?

    Thanx, Simon.

That was before these rules were implemented. Now with these rules, all threads will get removed if they don't follow the listings in the announcement.

    My suggestion:

If you are selling anything... car, parts, wheels, etc, please enforce a "must have picture" rule.

What's the first question in every forsale thread if no picture is posted???
    Answer ~ Pics?

    case in point...

These new rules must not apply in the mk4 parts forums. It's running ramped in there!

You should just delete the entire classifieds and start them all over again. Make the mods jobs a little easier. Even 95% of the new posts don't even follow the rules. I can pick out about 25 of them already.

Oh and I like the pics idea.

why is it that the advertisers selling parts are allowed to post their threads in Cars for sale forum when the users are not?

case in ref: MKV Cars For Sale forum.

These rules aren't working. The entire first page of the MK2 classifieds does not follow the rules.

What should the sellers do that have a large # of parts in the same listing.
Should they list the items separately?

    Examples
    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2438545
    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2651245

    Thanks
and I think the new rules are a great Idea

Suggestion: please provide notification when a classified posting is being deleted (for failure to comply with new listing rules, I assume). I would have liked the opportunity to edit the title line, which it appears was the problem.

I don't think FA or For Auction threads should be allowed. Either people want to sell their wares on this site or they don't.

When is this going to start happening Anthony? I asked Stephen and he locked the thread and pointed me here for an answer.

This is still the case and no one seems to be monitoring this forum at all.

I used to post a lot. Then vBulletin made it impossible to follow updates to subscribed threads. Now I don't.

Soooooo true - flames abound if no pics are ever posted. Pictures should be mandatory along with a written CONDITION (used. new, beat, etc...) of the item.

    I'd like to know too

AND is there any way to institute filling out standard FORMS when you have something to buy/sell/trade? That way specific information must be included in the listing to be posted (not to mention, deletions won't be necessary b/c your thread won't post if the form is not filled out correctly ). Obviously an additional "Notes" section would have to be on there for comments you can't make in the standard fields.

    Is this doable?

    x2

The G/J II Cars forum is still a complete mess and there's not much point in PM'ing every single thread to a mod.

I used to post a lot. Then vBulletin made it impossible to follow updates to subscribed threads. Now I don't.

Come on guys, no response in almost 3 weeks? What's the point of creating rules if only some get enforced and others don't? This is very promising but doesn't seem to be happening at all yet

    Bump for more answers, too!
And I think the "form" idea I suggested might not work due to the limitations of the zeroforum software...but I could be wrong.

Sorry for not responding sooner... the e-mail notification didn't give me any replies to this topic.

I'm open to suggestions on how to enforce this. The problem is the classifieds are so large, and I can't set a specific required format for thread titles, unfortunately.

I will see if I can get zeroforum to work on something that when you click on the classifieds forums it takes you directly to the new rules.

I will create a topic asking the moderators for implimentation suggestions, and if you all have any, that would be appreciated also.

I think at this point you should black hole the entire classifieds (if that is possible and not a ton of work) and make everybody start over. At first I would report any threads that didn't follow the rules but it just turned out to be too much and the mods wouldn't scroll up to check for other topics reported. Your idea about sending them to the the rules first is a good idea too. The idea of cleaning up the classifieds is a great idea and I'd like to see it done soon.

    Thanks Anthony

The only way to properly enforce displaying classified posts according to the rules is to force the user to complete a form that creates the thread for them which I assume means a Zerforum enhancement which means this won't happen anytime reasonably soon.

The only other way I can see to enforce this would be to enlist extra moderators just for specific classified forums since the current moderators don't appear to be able to handle the load required.

I thought there was a plan in place to support the new rules

I used to post a lot. Then vBulletin made it impossible to follow updates to subscribed threads. Now I don't.

The issue is that this isn't a pressing matter - it's something that would be nice to have, not something that is required.

We have some limitations with our current classifieds system, as it's not really a system, rather just forums. Many other sites have third party classified solutoins, and that is something we are looking into also.

I'll work on a few things and see what we can do to enforce these rules...

Oh I hear ya, that's why I say any enhancements required by Zeroforum really aren't going to happen since existing bugs are still being worked out (like emails).

I really think a required form to post in classified forums is the best bet but if that isn't do-able, additional mods are really the only way to go to get some kind of order within those forums.

    Thanks

Guys, please start enforcing these new classified rules.
The mk4 parts forum is a mess.

wheels, stereos, t-shirts, concert tickets, PC's for trade, best offers, etc...
I think I even saw a kidney for trade!!

If I see one more "obo" in a forsale thread with no pics, I might go postal then slit my wrists!

Have a look in there, it's ugly...

Look to the Mk1 parts classifieds to see "AdidasCU's Euro Rescue", a "Classified Advertiser" no less, posting nothing but links to his eBay auctions.

Every last post is NOTHING but links to auctions. Lame. , again.

well...i guess im the black sheep. - i think the new format is complete bs.

1/2 the fun in looking through the classifieds is like being at the "flea market" at a huge car show -

there is a whole mess of stuff you dont care about, but is fun to look at.

there are a few things you see that you would like to buy, but cant/dont for various reasons.

and there are 1 or 2 items that you found and said i need/want that but they guy was asking $x.xx, and i talked him down to $x.xx.

as far as the "fights" go, whats to stop people from bickering through IM's or posting? it seems as though you are punishing the whole forum for a few bad apples.

i would need to make 12 threads right now to sell the items i would like to get rid of. that is RIDICULOUS. now it is harder for me to keep track of the sale, i have to "bump" 12 threads instead of 1 (with 40 seconds allowed between bumps, it gets tedious and frustrating), and the classifieds expands to god knows how many threads/pages.

im 100% sure that my thoughts mean absolutlely NOTHING, but at least i got it out.
