I've noticed several oil pressure light topics lately and have also posted regarding my oil temp guage being maxed all the time (due to no sensor installed on my GX/Fox 1.8... New one on the way!) and have changed both oil pressure sensors and am running 20w50 with a Napa filter. Great oil pressure both on my interior guage and and on a guage used to check beneath the hood... I am still getting the oil pressure light (no buzzer, though, unless it finally just gave up... lol). I haven't worried too much about it except that anyone that rides with me asks, "What's with the red light flashing?"Odd thing is that the light has been flashing since I bought the car. When I replaced the sensors, it reduced the flashing to occur only after full warm up and only when the car was decelerating at highway speeds, etc. After I replaced the valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket, it now comes on just as soon as I start the car. Might I be overlooking some obvious connection? It shouldn't be related since the light responses have varied and the oil temp guage hasn't been touched but is it possible for the oil temp guage/missing oil temp sensor to have anything to do with triggering it, as well? Just curious for some fresh ideas... Thanks!

By the way, I may get some engine bay pics following my clean-up of the past couple of weeks posted this evening...

Thanks Ron, that's the page I was looking at before as a matter of fact... I didn't read the portion about the temp sensor well enough, though...Is it common for new sensors to be bad, for both of mine have been replaced? I'll run through the tests again this weekend to double-check, to be sure...

Johnnie,
Quote, originally posted by native-texan_in_tn » .............Is it common for new sensors to be bad...?.... I used to see a lot of brand new, just out of the box, aftermarket switches that were no good, too many factory switches too. These parts were so bad, (these light/buzzer issues have been common for a long time), I took to batch, bench testing our inventory, sending the junk back right away. I had an adjustable pressure regulator set up for easy fit up, used a DVOM for continuity testing. The control units are quite sensitive, they really want to see a fully closed or fully open contact from the switches.
The factory recommended test (I think Bentley repeats it) for the switches shows a test light in use. That is so wrong, a test light simply cannot show the subtleties a DVOM can. I like test lights for a lot of things, oil pressure switch testing is not among them.Ron

Thanks for promoting http://WWW.THE152.COM, RonThe dynamic content on the main page has been upgraded today to include cabby-specific content alongside the interesting quotes from famous dead people. Of course the forums are packed already.
Texan: the oil pressure stuff is in the FAQ, too. It doesn't answer your second question. The answer to that is posted above in the long form and the short form is: Not common, but it happens sometimes.

Thanks ya'll... I'm going to go through and play with it all again Sunday when I put my new oil temp sensor/guage wiring in (the only other project slated is an R-134 conversion as long as Murphy's Law doesn't kick in! <chuckle>). The light (and rarely the buzzer anymore) is simply a minor nuisance for I feel pretty confident that the pressures are good.I DO faintly recall my import mechanic friend (out of touch now in the Cascades of Oregon) mentioning the warning light system was finicky, too. Once I track it down and find the culprit(s), I'll post the results (and more specific info, too)... Thanks!
