Thread: OFFICIAL: MMA thread (all things mma, pride, ufc) - NO SPOILERS!!

    1. 07-25-2006 11:14 AM #71
Your right about AA and Sylvia......and Mir is questionable?

The other divisions seem to be getting better and better......and know that Jens Pulver is back i cant wait to see him back in the octogan!

I tell you what i do miss the old UFC with Vitor, Couture, Rizzo because they had some great wars back then. Its been awhile since i have seen fights like those in the UFC. I guess in a way the UFC is trying to hopefully get back to the past years. And they tried with Sylvia and AA and Ortiz and Shamrock.

In a way i guess thats why i like the fact that GSP and Hughes and Penn have the ablitity to become great fights for the UFC.

Yeah defiantly..with UFC 62-63 i beleive with Liddell vs. Babalu, Liddell vs. Sylva (hopefully even though i want babalu to beat liddell), GSP vs. Hughes 2, and hopefully Anderson Sylva vs. Franklin.

Im not really interested in seeing Bonner vs. Griffen for some reason.

And i think Sherk is fighting also which is allways fun to watch!

Actually the next couple of months will be awesome as far as fights in Pride (OWGP) and UFC!

FSN August 27 is 2nd round Bushido!

And i cant wait to see it......the fight card looks very good with Hendo, Kang and Filho fighting! I really want to see more of Kang and Filho from what i have seen so far both look like they will be a force in the weight division!

Pretty cool article in the local paper on Chris Leben, they also had an article on UFC's history:

      http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/....html

It's all about squats and deads.

im glad i found this thread..... i have been a UFC fan since the first time i rented a VHS as a little kid. it was tough to follow, i wasnt allowed to get PPV, and had to wait till the video store owner would get them in. i never followed other MMA organizations, which im regretting now.
as far as TUF goes, i think it was the best thing that happened to UFC. it has opened it up to so many people, and made it available for people with little means to watch MMA.
im a photojournalist in southern california, im going to cover my first MMA event on august 4th. with that i have a connection with a producer who is producing the UFC movie that is coming out. im sure there is going to be plenty of neg. responses to that, and im sure the movie will blow, as most hollywood interpretations go. but hes tied to the UFC, and is working on some media credentials for me. hopefully ill be ringside for 61, and so on!

im also working on a picture story on Lodune Sicaid.

I agree TUF and the Spike deal did change UFC where it just exploded.

But, the thning that changed it before then was when Dana White (Zuffa) bought the UFC and went to and changed the rules of the UFC so they could fight in Vegas and other states. Once they changed the rules and were able to fight more in other states is when they started to get big.

But, the TV deal with Spike and the show TUF was when they totally exploded! And brought it to more main stream audience. I cant wait untill Pride comes over to the US soon!

but then it wont be pride, because they to will have to change rules to fight in the states!

You my friend are not a true fan until you go see one live.

The best event I ever went to was when I sat side by side with Kevin Randleman. He is a funny SOB after a few beers

They wouldn't sell 5 tickets at that price. Don't recall what they cost but I know I never paid over 100.

It all depends on the event. The UFN would be much cheaper as it is smaller and on Spike, not PPV. The seats by the cage, on the floor, for a big PPV (Liddell vs. Couture, Hughes vs. Gracie) can get rediculously expensive.

On a sidenote: I've read that it's been confirmed that Brock Lesnar is training with Miletich FS

I remember the UFC in Mohegan like a year ago was $100 - $500 a seat. It wasnt cheap.

If he does plan on fighting in the UFC, he won't be able to, he will test positive for roids, just like Tim Silvia.

Although I do appreciate him getting out of Fake Wrestling and going after something real (NFL, MMA) The guy is huge though, would not mind seeing him and Mir go at it as a first fight.

From what I read Miletich says in a year he'll be unstoppable. I think it's pretty funny personaly, but the guy is huge aftterall, and the HWs could use a spectacle like him. However, I think he'll start off in K-1. He wants to fight Bob Sapp and/or Royce Gracie apparently.

he was a GREAT collegiate wrestler. why is it funny? I think as long as he trains hard in his stand up and regains his ground game he should be a good fighter.

Agreed, Lesnar was a NCAA beast. If he's training to fight, that's good news for MMA heavyweight divisions.

They test for steroids in the UFC???

And I hope the testing is consistant, and that they didn't just make Silvia a scapegoat for the sake of media pleasing.

Hmm, I guess I haven't gone since it got real "mainstream" or I just never had great seats

I remember buying plane tickets and UFC tickets to a show in Nevada. The room,UFC ticket and Plane tickets I think cost me about 700 bucks

It was along time ago though. It was for a show a week or so after 911 so I didn't end up going.

Well, if he gets a contract with the UFC he will have a good chance of getting a title shot and taking the belt. As long as he has a good chin and stand up and some cardio he has good a chance as anybody else.

But, with his wrestling background all he has to do is shoot and get a take down and start the GnP on someone. And with training with MFS he will have no problem with learning GnP and some submissions.

I guess it all depends how he does with striking and getting hit. And also defendng subs and takedowns. It seems with the UFC heavyweights all they want to do is strike/standup. And with the lack of talent in the HW talent in the UFC he does have a shot.

IMHO training with MFS is a great start especially with a very strong wrestling background.
