  1. 07-28-2006 07:59 PM #1
Just finished installing a sub in my GLI last night. Havent gotten pictures of it yet but it is a VERY clean install and quite loud. I put one 12" infinity kappa perfect DVQ with a 600 watt infinity reference series mono amp. Hopefully i can get pictures of it put up very shortly.

Nice touch with the GLI in the enclosure. Wish it was a little more flush on the top near the trunk opening.

I wish it was mounted flush as well however the sub required a 7" mounting depth and the box was just slightly too big for the faceplate to sit flush with the edge.

haha. i JUST finished one as well, for my gti. i included the amp next to it and put a beauty board over top of everything. damn dual voice coil sub wouldn't fit flush in the enclosure. great install.

Nicely done! Hows the sound of that sub? I am surprised to see people having luck with a sub enclosure on that side of the trunk, I was sure there wouldn't be enough airspace, thats why I put mine and the other side and my amp where you have your sub.

The sub is still being broken in, but so far i am very impressed with how much bass that it is putting out. The amazing thing is that it is like 10 times quieter outside of the car than inside. I have about 3/4 of a cubic foot for the enclosure. The faceplate also gives a nice reverberation from the empty space between it and my trunk lining.

3/4? No way! Oh you extended it past the cavity, I see. I love how you cant hear it outside. The only thing that rattles on mine is the license plate holder.

No aincient chinese secret, just a box that was a pain to build...the size of just the cavaty isnt wide enough to put a 12" sub in, so i had to angle the sidees of the box out in order to make it wide enough to fit. That angle is what gave me the 3/4 cube

Where did you pick up the carpet?

i picked up the carpet at the local car audio shop. It is pretty much the closest match you would ever be able to find.

Can you pull up the floor board? to get to the spare? Did you cut it? Looks good.....

You installed the way I wanted to do mine. My installer ended up putting a 10" in the other compartment on the right, but I miss that storage space. Your set-up makes a lot more sense.

Good work, and that must've been tricky to get a 12" in there. Very nice, especially considering all the effort of doing it yourself. (I admit, I wimped out.)

I can pull up the floor board to get to my spare tire if need be. Of course, if i did it would take a little bit of time to get the spare/floorboard back in and the sub enclosure readjusted to fit right.

Ohh, and i had a bit of help from my friend who used to compete in car audio a few years back...its always good to know people.
