wow, that interior is CLEAN!great find....

Hi Everyone,I'm going to start this thread as an ongoing journal on the progress of my first ever project car. WooHoo! I've been wanting a MkII Jetta 2 door for a long time, and this one just came up. I wasn't really looking for one, but you know how it goes.
I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I plan to learn a lot in the process of building this car up. It's not going to be a daily driver, as I have a company car for that, currently a MkV Jetta TDI. (now MkV GTI, 07.2007)
I've just purchased a 60/40 FK Hi-Tec kit for the car. It will likely eventually end up on coilovers, but for the time being, it's all I'm looking for in a drop.
This isn't going to be an all-out crazy car. Just something to make me happy. I'm very much a fan of the 'clean' look, so it will likely always look restrained.
Anyway, I'm really starting this thread for my own amusement and to keep a record of everything.
Feel free to post comments.

Actually, I have a question. I also have this car:
I bought it for my brother so he'd have something to drive, but he destroyed it. I'm thinking maybe rather than selling it, I should be pulling parts from it, then scrapping the body. It's a real shame because the car was in really nice condition before he got a hold of it.
Any suggestions as to what I should be taking from this car before I get rid of it? I'm thinking ECU among other things. I don't have the space to keep it as a shell and pull parts off at will...

I meant to post this a few weeks ago. I went out to the car to check something, and noticed this:
Wicked. Someone took my radio. Nice. Now I'm afraid to replace it and get that ripped off too. Kinda sucks driving with no music...

So I did a few more things ... I replaced the banana markers and the front lenses to something a little darker:
Now, you may be wondering why the metal piece below the grille is white. Well, the grille that the car came with had some broken clips (surprise!) so I took the one off the white car from above and replaced a very brown headlight.
I also figured that it was about time to get the car closer to terra firma. Here's a before picture (sorry for the crappy night shot):
And here are some shots from the install (thanks to Dragan at Metro Garage!):
And the end result:
That's all for now! Thanks for looking!

It's actually pretty clean. A few problem areas like the PS fender and the base of the windshield, but other than that ... not bad all around. The area around the gascap is rust free!

That is a really clean car to start with. I like the white one to, it really doesn't look like it needs much at all to be nice. The lowering springs make it look so much better. I would recommend taking of the gril and spraying that strip black, it would make a huge difference and with a little prep work and time, the paint should turn out fine (if you buy the stuff at the parts store that matches the OEM color).
Good luck with it, a lot better of a start than mine...

Thanks man. I'm planning on painting that strip. It's driving me insane. I don't drive it daily so it's easier to let it slide. I'll probably do it next week, and even then I'm just going to rattle can it. I'm planning on ending up with a Rallye front end anyway.

My jetta is white and it has a painted white grill (flaking off and somewhat cracked) with a black strip along the bottom with the VW emblem painted gold. It really couldn't look much worse.

It's been a while since I posted something, so here is a list of the things that were done since last time...- replaced the starter motor
- painted the black grill strip
- installed the wheels
- applied 20% tint all around
- resprayed the grill flat black
- sprayed the VW grill logo gloss blackThe car's starting to come together slowly. I'm not sure about the wheels anymore though. I really want ATS Cups...
Anyway, I have a Jetta GTX 4 spoke steering wheel, and a spoiler from the same car, so those have to be installed. Stay tuned!

Thanks Ruckus.
Those Trophys are so sweet. I don't think my friend has installed them yet though. He's only now getting his car back on the road after a long winter in Calgary.

It's been a while since I last posted something ...I've since:
- installed a basic CD player
- replaced the fuel filter
- added some various trim pieces around the interior that were missing
- replaced the 20% tint with 35% on the front windowsThe coupe's at the body shop now getting:
- a new passenger side fender
- a GTX (GLI) spoiler installed
- various touch ups
- a fender antenna delete (with a plug, for now)
- driver's door thin mouldingI've got some ATS Cups on order with some 195 45R15 Toyo T1Rs coming from Tunershop.
I'll post some pics when it's done and get the other pics working.
This is pretty much what the car looks like now, except with the two front windows a little lighter:
Ian.
