Yeah, Saturday is still on. I had to order my coilovers from out of state, but they said that I will see them before Saturday. Then I will have a gently used GLI suspension for sale at a fair price.
So far it looks like there should be a bunch of people there. We should be able to handle this install in a very short amount of time if everything goes right (knocks on wood).

    17. 02-19-2007 09:49 AM #402
I am definitely out. I will be working. I can take the GTi though and let Rob take my Yota down. It might be easier that way and he can bring the air compressor (alot easier to get a compressor in and out of a truck than the back of a car) Just a thought. Shouldn't have any problems!

      True that.

Eric, I wasn't sure when you were planning on doing the install, but I will be off work at noon. Im pretty certain that it wasn't gonna happen before then, but yeah.

Oh yeah, if you guys are interested, I can bring some coffee. Lots of coffee. Just a thought.

I had not thought of that. Nobody else had mentioned it so I figured I wouldn't need anything else (noob at this car suspension stuff, I am used to trucks). Does anybody know part numbers or anything?

      EDIT TO ADD SOME THOUGHTS....
Okay, so I have tried to search a bit for the part numbers. I didn't really come up with much. I did find one link to a company selling them and they said if your car has more than 40K miles you should consider replacing them. Since my car only has 30K I would hope that they are okay. I also drive on fairly decent roads and don't typically overdrive my car. Do you think I would be okay not to replace them?

I mean.. if the car had 10k or so I'd say don't bother. But at 30k, you're pushing it. Your car is going to be under more stress now with the susp, your angles will be changed and I'm sure it puts more stress on those components. The Bearing part number is 1J0 412 249. The strut mount beaing part number is 1J0 412 331 C. The bearings are $9.50 each retail, the strut mounts are $17.78 each..

I would still replace the bushings/bearings. I always got mine when I did suspension work..who did you order the coils from? I know most companies offer them at a discount with coils If not get with Kelly, dynamic motorwerks (Drew is cool as hell) or PAP-Parts for the kit...reasonably cheap Worst case Brian can get them at AutoCrap VW

So, I would need 2 of each, right? Can these be purchased at the stealership (to avoid shipping)?

Oh, and did you mean the bushing is 1J0 412 249 and the strut bearing is 1J0 412 331 C?

Um.. ya.. the part numbers I gave you are OEM.. From VW through any VW dealership. If you want, I can get them for you. And have Rob bring them up. I can give you a lil bit of a break if you call me up to order.. Then ROb can bring them when he comes up.

If Rob doesn't have a problem doing that then I will do that. I checked Maund here, since it is close to work, and they have them at the prices you listed. But, if I can knock off a few bucks it is better. Shoot me an IM with your number and I will get back to you and order them.

It was fun last weekend at the Auto-X. Right as I got home my wire snapped to the window regulator. Had to go to Austin Veedub this morning and picked one up.

New price from the dealer 53 bucks, 35 bucks from Austin Veedub...

JakkoVR and myself will be pulling the head off his mkII VR this evening, if you guys are bored lemme know.
