Thread: GLI "side skirts" part number request

    1. 11-09-2006 09:58 AM #1
I'm trying to find the part numbers for the right and left "side skirts" (the black textured pieces that cover the rocker panel).

I looked in the FAQ and all I found were the part numbers for the front and rear spoilers and the reflectors.

      Thanks,
      JD

It does not really say in the parts catalog, but I would assume it is to help secure the side skirt to the car.

Now all we need is a DIY ...

    8. 11-10-2006 11:04 AM #8
I may do this sometime in January. Now that I have all the GLI body part numbers lined up and have my wheels and tires ordered, the "GLI conversion" is my next project.

I'm sure somebody with a GLI will want my front and rear painted bumper pieces that I'm going to be replacing... <hint hint>

Please do ... there are DIYs floating around out there for the Euro lip installation which should prove helpful. But none that I can recall for the side skirts and rear valence. I personally am particularly interested on the install for those parts.

I'm going to get the gli side skirts and paint it in to body color I hope it would look nice.

Remind me on Monday, I am pretty sure the rear bumper cover is the same for the GLI and regular Jetta. If so, the rear valance should be a very simple install.

Any word on the install ... body kit is up next on the list after wheels (which is 99.9% secured).

I have the euro front lip, GLI rear valance with reflectors, and the side skirts all on order. I'll be attaching the side skirts with 3M double sided trim tape.

Nice dude ... that is what I am planning as well. Not sketched out at all about not using the bolts for the sideskirts? I also just plan on keeping them black ... I think it gives a nice subtle sporty look.

If you have time, please do a writeup with some photos.

Ya this is on my to-do list.

Ideally, I would like to color match some combo of the Votex and Air Design kits ... I just don't know if I can stomach the cost of color matching much less the time it takes - don't they keep your car during that time? Either way, the cost seems very high.

I actually prefer the black textured plastic to the painted pieces. Classic case of wanting what I don't have."

I was just at the dealership today (Hille & Walter in Wiesbaden, Germany)....They can't order these parts, they are US only (Not the retainers, just the GLI side skirts...DOH!)

So...who wants to buy a set for me and ship them over here?????
(obviously I mean, I will pay you back for them..unless you are feeling giving )

I have had them sitting in my storage space for well over a year now, I can take some pictures of them and the clips so you get an idea of how they fit, as I won't put them on until summer I think.
