    Thread: DUBSTEP!!!!

    Hybrid View

    1. 11-09-2006 11:39 PM #1
Been listening to a bunch of this stuff lately; haven't seen a related thread on here yet, so I figured I would start one. I've got a mix from Rinse FM of Skream b2b Tubby that's absolutely bananas. Can anyone recommend any other artists/DJs? Also, if you have any dubstep mixes post em up here.

A friend was tryign to tell me about dubstep in 06. I had no idea wtf she was on about. That Coki and Benga song has blown up, as well as the current Burial lp. I wasnt a big fan initially, but I am starting to get into it.

      I just grabbed this:

      Tracklist:
      01. Skream - Tribal Intro
      02. Skream - The Shinein
      03. DLX - Matter of Facts (Breakage's Relatively Speaking Mix)
      04. Mala - Mountain Dread March
      05. Skream - If You Know
      06. Benni Page & Zero G - Pan Pipes
      07. Hit N Run - Bad Out
      08. Noah D & No Thing - Unknown Suspect
      09. Seven - Siren
      10. Seven - Dark Passenger
      11. Smut - Badman Place
      12. Benga - Better
      13. Kutz - Twilight Zone
      14. Skream - Filth
      15. Kulture - Diesel
      16. Benga - Benga's Off His Head
      17. Rusko - Soundboy My Target
      18. Skream - Simple City
      19. Babylon System & Noah D - Examination Of Time
      20. Skream - Fick
      21. Benga - 26 Basslines V.I.P
      22. Breakage - Together
      23. Benga - Sleep Another Day
      24. TC - Where's My Money (Caspa Remix)
      25. Black Ganion - Method (Goth Trad Remix)
      26. Skream - Meta-Lick
      27. Rufige Kru - Shanghai Nights
      28. Late - Saw, Sine, Square

I still can't get over Breakage's dubstep tunes. His dnb is phenomenal (very close to Amit in sound) and his dubstep is mindblowing. All in all a good mix but alot of the tracks are pretty played and I was hoping for a few more dubplates or unreleased stuff.

Got me bobbin' pretty good though!

I've enjoyed some dubstep, I really like the basslines but I feel that most of the albums consist of too many songs that feel like they are building up to something and then never get there. Like they are interludes or something. They leave me feeling incomplete. Burial (first album) and Milanese come to mind. I enjoy Boxcutter more although some of his tracks suffer from the same problem.

this mix is good (more of a chill vibe). suitable for headphones.

A lot of this music you gotta hear on a club system to fully appreciate it though. Especially the heavier, less melodic type tunes.

      cool, thnx!

looks like with most ppl dubstep is either love it or totally hate it type of thing. pretty much like with anything else that is new in this world.

    14. 01-16-2008 03:17 AM #14
Dubstep is rad. You need a proper sound system to listen to it though to really hear all the frequencies. I like the more harder stuff with a bit of reggae and MC spitting as compared to the more ambient stuff.

We lucky enough to have a cool scene here. So far i have heard livesets from Hatcha and Benga, and Skream! Plastician came through but i missed the show.

Hatcha and Benga were pretty cool. You can tell that those guys are next level compared to our local but still good LA dubstep DJs.

Skream! is on another planet. It was the funniest small party i went to last year. It was in a huge 4th story loft with access to the roof in a rough part of town, overlooking downtown LA. The bar was simple and system was insane. 14 subs that pretty much destroyed everyone there. Skream! played a lot of cool stuff, some of his own stuff and some other stuff i have never heard before. I would say he mixes the best in technique and track choice. He pretty much kept everyone moving the whole set.

Reloading songs is fun but sometimes people get too hyped and play it out.

I heard SF has a bigg scene but i haven't made it up there yet. I am stoked on the LA scene right now though.

OC is trying to get a local scene, but they dont have the proper sound system and dont seem to understand that the sound system is the most important thing to really enjoy Dubstep.

      good stuff posted.

while i was in London over the Holidays i stumbled into an underground Venue playing a lot of what I'm hearing from the second post. a bit faster and had a Reggae style MC over the beats.

i dug what i heard tho

Its been hard since I moved from the bay area to find a quality scene in OC. For most electronic music. Sad really, I thought it would be easy.

I love it. Like a dirty twist between DnB and some techy garage sound.

thanks for the heads up Mr. Rictus on that rinse.fm podcast. any one you recommend in particular?

i currently have Caspa & Rusko's Fabriclive 37 on repeat. that and Skream!'s Make Me and his Klaxons remix. so ****ing dope. i'm really just fresh into this. always liked UK garage, and i kinda fell upon this genre through some wobbly electro-house tracks.

I just picked up My Demons by Distance...I'm still fairly new to this as well, but it's a pretty good album. I've been listening to mostly that and Glyphic by Boxcutter

I got into dubstep about two years ago, but I still haven't heard that much. Most of you that posted probably heard more than I have. So post up more artist for me to look for. Here is a list of artist I listen to so far:

      Scuba
      The Distance
      Hatcha & Benga
      Pinch
      Vex'd
      Search and Destroy
      Mark One

You guys may want to check out the latest Meat Beat Manifesto album, Autoimmune. It's all kinds of Dubstep. MBM has been a huge influence on electronic music for about 20 years and has always been heavily influenced by dub, so in essence they're not only electronic pioneers but dubstep pioneers. On this album they've fully embraced the recent dubstep sound.

As far as the rinse.fm podcasts go... they're all good. For real, you get some dubstep, UK funk (basically two-step garage), house and the occasional Drum 'n' Bass mix.

Look out for Scientist, Distance, Skream, Chef, Benga, Plastician, Braiden, Scratcha, N-Type, Neckle...
Now I've gotta go out and pick up the mixes you just mentioned.

yeah definitely, he's very subjective and i can see people loving all sorts of different things about him. his self titled is great, just something about those pitched vocals i'm loving.

that's awesome though. i heard he also sampled metal gear solid and silent hill 3 for untrue.

the last 70 something seconds of Shell of Light.... so damn perfect.

(which is also a sample of (a cover of?) ernie halter - whisper)

Hey, can anyone recommend anything similar to Rusko - Or anything super super heavy.

I heard some good stuff this weekend, dude said it was Tubstep? But I don't think he was correct.
