For sure man. I like me some n-type, plastician is good, but I kinda gotta be in the mood.

Rinsefm is a godsend.... they are carrying the torch for true, pure dubstep. A lot of people new to the genre don't really know the meaning of the word or what this ****s all about - Big. Bad. Deep. BASS.

Electro is the new trance. The fad will pass. Years from now people will look back at this trend with a gag and a shudder (like if you mention ATB to cats that remember the 90s).

Cort - Back at you brah. I don't really understand what you meant posting that flyer.
Seeing Reid Speed on there is funny. I remember when she played DnB.

You're not old enough to get the reference I was making, so you can call it nonsense I guess. It's not going to make sense to someone that was not clubbing in the 90's.

I was not just referring to electro dubstep... the electro sound is rampant in every genre of EDM and even pop music and some rock. It's everywhere. It's the trend. It originated in the 80's and it's back big time. It's been run into the ground, done to death, and bastardized to no end. It's certainly not avant-garde in any way.

To be fair, this happens all the time with all genres of music and art.... just about every decade or so. It's just how music is... people hear something and copy it, repeat, etc. Something "new" will come along eventually.

I was clubbing in the 90's, albeit late 90's. In Germany in fact, where ATB is from. I guess that's why I think you are so dumb, fo real, for insulting ATB. I saw him sell out clubs by his name alone. I know what you were talking about by talking about electro. But you were in the states, not Europe. So your argument for a proper "club scene" is invalid. And Reid Speed is dope! Seen her twice in the last year down here in Austin.

Anyways.... Here's a sick mix for you guys

Yeah late 90's is about right - when trance was blowin' up. Those were good times with lots of heads in the clubs. (Unfortunately often for the wrong reasons...)

I can't speak for Germany. I didn't. I said nothing about a "proper club scene" (whatever that means). You keep trying to make me out as some elitist like some kinda baby Rick Santorum. ****'s lame dude.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions. Mine is: muthabuck ATB!! Why do you care? Why should I kiss his scrote? I'm a junglist. This is a dubstep thread. Trance is gay. Whoppie do.

ATB is simply not remembered fondly among people I know. His music is poppy bubble-gum **** that lacks depth. It doesn't hold up to the test of time. He is not extraordinarily talented. He was part of a fad movement... right place, right time. (You could say he was 'the skrillex of his time' in that way.)

You seem to define quality of music/artists by selling out venues and/or record sales. I don't and never will. We will never agree there.

I really just threw ATB out there because it was the biggest trance name I could recall that seemed extremely dated to drive the point home. I could have said Tiesto, PVD, Oakenfold... irrelevant.

The point was trance. It blew up quick. It was everywhere, for a while. Then it fell off. Now it's the butt of jokes. You could say the same of acid-house/hard-house... and many other sub-genres/trends. You know exactly what I'm getting at.

I haven't heard Reid Speed in years. I used to really like some of her d&b sets. When she kept the styles varied she was solid. I hope she's playing a variety of dubstep these days.

Because you are. And have done so through out this thread.

I agree. This is dubstep thread. But it's also a discussion board. If you bring up something I disagree with, I have just as much of a right to disagree with your statements as you do to make them.

Here we are again, back to your elitist status. Every time I go out to ANY sort of mainstream dancey-style event. For example, midnight bowling with lasers and crap and blacklights at a local place. Rest assured ATB's track "9pm-Till I come" will be played. It's a staple in dance music in the 90's. Just as much as "Better off alone" by Alice Deejay is. And for you to say he lacks depth is silly. Therefore it WILL and HAS held up to the test of time.

Record sales is what defines an artist. Period. If you are successful, people will buy your records. If you are good, people want to go to your shows. If you aren't selling records, and you aren't selling out your venues, then you're just mediocre. Sure, you may be doing what you want. Sure you may be true to "yourself", but if you're not gaining a fan base, then you are just wasting your time.

It didn't fall off. It's still out there. Quite a bit in fact. You are sheltered it seems and don't get out much. There is trance being played every day, to this day. As far as acid-house/hard-house they STILL get played, albeit not as much. For you to say they are the "butt of jokes" strikes my "you're an elitist prick" even further home.

And let me get this straight. You're saying Tiesto and Oakenfold have fallen off? What crack are you smoking? Those guys are still banging out tracks, and still filling up dancefloors in every city they show up to. Worldwide.

She mixes it up alot. Still plays a lot of D&B in with her set, but mixes in some filthy dubstep in with it.

In conclusion. Here's a parrot dancing to dubstep.

Album sales mean dick. Chasing sales is selling out. How much influence you have over other artists is far more important. I will never agree with you there. That doesn't make me an elitist though. It merely means you don't think for yourself and you simply follow the herd. Enjoy!

Quality is quality. The work should stand on it's own merit. Why do you need other people to validate it for you?

Trance and acid house did fall off. How can you say other wise? That's retarded. Just because they still exist doesn't mean ****. They are not at the height they once were. Simple. Why do I have to explain this?

You mean to tell me jazz music is still kickin ass... because it's still around?!? It's not 1920 jack. Your logic no makea no sense.

Keep pulling out Alive Deejay tracks to try to prove you know good music from ****. That's working out great for you.

been a while since I posted in here. As long as I don't have to go out to SanFran for work, I plan on seeing Liquid Stranger and Excision in Philly towards the end of the month. First time in years I'll be seeing electronic music live, I can't wait.

So be it. We disagree. The rest of music industry agrees with me. Hence why album sales is what keeps artists signed to labels.

How can you make the above statement in the same breath in which you just said "Do what you love, not what sells." It's a complete contradiction. And trance hasn't fallen off. At all. You just have your obvious different market. I went to Europe this summer, heard trance all over still. I hear Trance every week down here where they play electronic music.

Again, you are showing your eltist prickness. Jazz is still kicking ass. Obviously you've never been to concert halls in your area, or New Orleans, or listen to NPR. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet that more radio stations nation wide play Jazz vs. dubstep.

I just got back from seeing Youngsta in Toronto. This was arguably the best set I've ever heard. This guy's style of music is just so different its nothing like traditional dubstep. I believe that he is by far the most talented dj in the scene right now.

You deepheads in the US should keep an eye out just in case he's playing a show in your town/city. It'll be a show you don't want to miss.

I'm flying to SanFran on Sunday and I'm going to need some stuff to listen to. Anyone wanna hook me up with a nasty mix? Liquid Stranger/Excision is my kinda stuff. Maybe not the best for a 7am flight, but oh well. haha.

Saw 16 bit and 12th planet last night at the Official UKF dubstep event at SXSW. They played three different tracks by Skrillex last night. Suck on that you "Skrillex isn't real dubstep" elitists. Doesn't get more legit than UKF.

went to the Liquid Stranger/Excision show last night and HOLY SH!!!!!!!!!T I've never felt bass like that ever in my entire life and I sold car stereos for a couple years.

Lucky Date was on when we got there and he was doing a pretty good job amping up the crowd, a little more "pop" than I was expecting but he was ok. Then L.S. came on and it was nasty straight out of the gate, it was everything I was expecting. Did about an hour set then he gets on the mic and goes "Hope you have your earplugs ready!" then Excision drops the nastiest bass note I've ever felt. The stools next to us were literally moving around on the floor. I highly recommend everyone go see these guys if they're coming to your city.

"Doesn't get more legit than UFK"

God help us, one of the dumbest statements about music I have ever heard....

Kind of a shame you wasted your time at a UKF dubstep party at SXSW when their were a million other artists and way better parties
