Probably not... The only reason it took only 45 mins to an hour for us is because we had 3 guys wrestling it in there. Ron (vwAllDaWay) said he spent like... 8 hours or something like that trying to do it himself. It's so tight and difficult, I can't believe we got it in there as quickly as we did.

I just read my post again and realized I forgot "much easier than" which was definitely the most important part of that post. LOL.

It took Wyatt and I a few hours to figure out how to get it back into the engine bay of the mk2 and then it didn't want to line up correctly so we gave the car the middle finger and I went back at it a week later or so.

Paul, you are a God. If you're not Paul, I would recommend having at least 2 people if not 3. Just made it so much easier.

Thinking of taking Yuk's advice and getting a 5mm spacer up front and 10mm spacer in the rear. What do you guys think? Should I fill up the fenders?

Haha, paractice makes perfect. That was the second time I had it out that week. The big things that speed it are taking the axle flanges out and having a good combo of tools to get the mount bracket off quick. Also for getting it back in just bench pressing it up and into place has always been easier then getting it in on a jack.

It's funny because the axle flanges were a point of consternation between Jason & Ron. One of them said we should take them off, the other said it was fine to leave it on... Turns out we should've taken them off after all. Plus, with Ron being able to bench press it up (like you said) was definitely easier than trying to wedge it in there with a tranny jack.

For the record, I was the one who wanted to pull them off. Paul what's the best method to pop the flange out of the diff? Do you lose gear oil by doing this? That was the main reason for leaving them in. Yes, they were in the way but we wiggled it back in.

Next chain clutch job, the engines coming out.

For the flanges I use two pieces of flat stock (1/4"ish 1x3" or so steel) behind the flange and screw two opposing bolts in from the axle side. You lose a tiny bit when you remove them but I put in rubber plugs to seal them whe they are out. For install they hammer right back in.

Engine out isnt easier between ac, coolant and rusty exhaust stuff. Only pull it if you gave other things to do that require removing as it always seems harder to finish once the motor is out

I went to Midway Muffler in Elsmere, DE to get my suitcase & resonator deleted. Paid $180 for delete & 2 1/2" piping to replace it. Ask for Butch, he's a bit of a nutcase but his work is top notch. Just be straightforward with the guy, no squirrel-business (if you catch my meaning).

    Thanks for asking buddy.

He's hanging in there. Still sick as a dog with barely any appetite.

He has been taking the meds he gave him though, so he should be good to go.
