    Awesome. Cut them all up

j/k, but don't let these fools get you down; you did the right thing, and you'll soon have another rallye. can't wait to see the build thread

the plan is for it to look like this again
same color, same wheels, better paint, powdercoated parts, NO rust
hopefully with better suspension this time around

Damn straight it will. These friggin' kids whining like Kev just up and decided one day to cut the car up... It's been for sale for years now.

VIN swapping? Please. You guys have no idea of the shit Kev's gone through the last few years trying to keep the Rallye here. That car is on the DMV, DOT, and US Custom's radar screens big time.

I've been there through the whole process shooting these photos and I've been there first hand for most of Kev's other projects. The planning and work going into the new car is above and beyond anything I've ever witnessed. Rest assured the final product will be amazing.

look at the bright side, you can build it better than before. What makes a Rallye a Rallye is the panels and this is what you have. What I would do is find a decent haldex system from an audi TT and build a 2.1 20v motor for it.If you allready have another frame ready please bead blast it and seam weld the ENTIRE FRAME.

BS laws, I still find it completely illogical that you can build whatever the hell you want in your garage and license it as a 'kit car,' but a car that is damn near US legal gets revoked and crushed.

Props to you for working the hell out of the system though

It used to be that you had to go through japan to get LM's in 4x100, but I believe with the introduction of the BMW Mini the LM's are available for it.

    PS.

I think the rallye will be better than ever. nothing wrong with chop cut rebuild... funny that people go ****ing nuts when they watch Foose do the restorations on Overhaulin' and chop the hell out of cars and use new frames etc. but when its done to a rallye because of legal implications and practicallity they get sand in their panties

Wow, some of you people seriously need to down a f**king chill pill. Its a car, and one that really isnt that rare over in europe. Sure, it has some history, but bloody He11, calm down. At least he got do get the major parts off of it. and good luck.

Exactly. This is not a car worth a felony charge. Its 2.2k lbs of metal. Its a great car that most of us would love to have, but c'mon its just a cool looking golf with AWD. If he got the body panals and the AWDness, and is going to swap it onto a US legal golf, WHO CARES.

now you have no more rallye...and whatever you build out of the peices still wont be a rallye. sucks that it had to happen that way.

  25. 12-05-2006 07:17 PM #95
so whats the story with this? you can't bring a whole rallye car here? you have to bring it in part by part? i don't get it.

All BBS wheels that are forged are made in Japan (so therefore all LMs)

    You are right WAY better

if your gonna use the drivetrain, motor, all the body panels, and interior out of the rallye in another 'shell' ... why not just swap a vin?... just seems like a waste of time, because your basically just tearing a car completley down, and putting it all back together on another cars frame/shell... sure some say illegal, but whos gonna know the difference if your using everything besides what little was left of the shell...

Seriously, did you read any part of the thread? After the three year battle that Kev has waged with the feds, and with how much heat this car brought down, you would have to be insane to try that now. If you think they're not going to go over that pile of metal with a fine tooth comb, looking for mismatched VINs, you're kidding yourself. No car is worth felony charges.

It was for sale 'forever' but the requirement was it MUST be exported to Canada.

Crazy stuff! Can the owner please pop some molds off of the panels and create some CF pieces for the less fortunate?

This would be the best time to create molds!
