Superhero Hype! has learned exclusively from a very reliable source that Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp is in talks with Sony Pictures to write Spider-Man 4!

Our source tells us that the studio is really excited about Spider-Man 3 after having seen a first cut of the movie. Add to that the phenomenal reaction to the screenings of footage at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and the momentum leading up to this point from last summer's Comic-Con, which have sparked the studio to approach Koepp about penning the fourth film's screenplay.

Koepp is not signed yet, but the studio is definitely moving forward with another installment.

Keopp recently finished the script for Indiana Jones 4 which received the green light from George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford. Besides the first Spider-Man movie, he has written such blockbusters as War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park, Panic Room, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible and Carlito's Way.

The first two "Spider-Man" films earned $1.6 billion dollars total worldwide. Spider-Man 3 kicks-off the summer on May 4

Sweet. I wonder what the story for a fourth movie would be. I'd like for them to continue on with Venom/Carnage, but I'd also like to see the Lizard as well. Hopefully everyone returns for a fourth and not a bunch of new people.

    I can't wait for Spider-Man 3 to come out!

I remember reading something about introducing Mysteryo. But i would definitely love to see them get more in depth with the venom/carnage. Have you heard anything new on how much screen time if any venom will have in this one?

I can't remember the source, but I heard Bruce Cambell is playing Mysteryo in Spidey 3 (short bit)

I could've sworn I heard Tobey was done with Spiderman movies.

All I have to say is, they better pick a better villain this time. Venom was basically the weakest villian to use in 3. Sandman though was

Sandman was the low-light of the last movie for me. His character development was so pathetic. The effects were pretty cool...but where was the heart?

I hope they learn from Batman and take it a little more seriously. I do like the Spiderman movies for what they are though.

Glad to hear they are officially making a 4th.

What killed spider-man3 was the villains. Sandman has always been boring, and they completely screwed Venom.

They took the best supervillain in the spider-man saga and just trashed him, and I'm sick of green goblin and mary jane getting kidnapped. Just move on already.

It's like a bad train wreck, everytime it comes on I can't help but watch it. And at the same time I can't help but hate it more and more each time.

luckily spiderman is blessed with a pretty diverse and recognizable rogues gallery. I remember someone (Raimi?) saying the spiderman movie franchise could be like James Bond with dozens of films. The fourth film could have lizard, electro, scorpion, kraven, mysterio, vulture, carnage... the list goes on and on.

This movie could be either really good or really horrible, considering how bad spider man 3 was and Indiana Jones 4 was the most single disappointing movie I have ever seen. However he did write the script for some great movies-Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible

  21. 09-07-2008 10:35 AM #21
What there is a 4th one in the works?

Honestly, there are plenty of other Marvel properties that could be made instead of revisiting Spidey.

Part 3 was flawed. The multiple enemies in the movie reeks of the later(earlier) Batman movies, Although Batman Returns pulled it off (thank Tim Burton), the rest became progressively worse and worse.

Venom is too major of a villain to be dispatched of in one movie. He is too major of a villain to play second fiddle to another. His treatment in Pt 3 is reminiscent of how they used Bane in that Batman movie(suppressing which one at the moment). He played 3rd fiddle to Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy, and he is gone as soon as he appears...Bane took Batman out of action for good while in the comics.

Part 3 should have been about Spidey getting the alien symbiote, and the major/only villain should have been Sandman. At the end of the movie he gets rid of the symbiote and Venom is foreshadowed for the next movie.

I just watched 2 recently for the first time in a couple years and thought it was an overly campy effort. If 2 is supposed to be the best, I can only imagine how crappy 3 was.

Latest news, and pretty much everything wrong with Hollywood:

    Quote »
    Maguire's $50M "Spider-Man" Deal?

The less-than-verbose 33-year-old actor will allegedly score that salary, plus profit shares, to shoot two further "Spider-Man" films back-to-back over six months next year reports The Times.

What's interesting is that there's a distinct stipulation in the contract - that he be granted 'family time', ie. to take early mornings and evenings off, to spend time with his 22 month-old daughter Ruby Sweetheart.

In the next few days Sony is expected to reveal whether actress Kirsten Dunst, who has been struggling with clinical depression, will be returning as his on-screen love interest Mary Jane Watson.

$50mm + $350mm production costs + $100-200mm marketing costs = ridiculously high $$$ to recover from box office and DVD sales.

Can everybody, get a good script, and search for unknown actors that actually give two s***s about their job.

I'm glad people are finally starting to realize what trash these movies are. Horribly campy, poor acting, no chemistry, lack of action, terrible scripts. I just don't get it.

Maguire's deal for Spidey 4 and 5 sounds pretty crazy though. Lucky mofo.

    Kirstin Dunst is back apparently:

The recent revelation that Sony Pictures is looking to shoot Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 at the same time didn't reveal whether Kirsten Dunst would rejoin director Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire for the films.

Now, Dunst has told MTV that she'll be back as Mary Jane Watson:

"I'm in," said the actress matter of factly. However, when pressed to make the announcement official, Dunst quickly changed her tone, and rather cryptically added, "I'm not saying anything, I know there's rumors..."

The studio is targeting a May 2011 release for the fourth pic.
