thats good that the new .:R is coming over here. maybe that will help drop the price of the mk4 .:R so that i can buy one in a couple of years.IMO, I like mk4 better than the new one even though this new one when tested on Top Gear was faster than the mk4, I just like how the mk4 looks.

Thanks for again remembering about Canada, Volkswagen! Couldn't pony up the 3 cars for crash testing to make the car legal? I guess it's too bad for us!It's reasons like this that I bought a BMW.

No 4 doorBOOOO!!!!

meh...
2nd generation of a popular car should mean more options (not fewer). Only DSG?
Only 2 Doors? It is a beautiful, moderately powered, non-sti/evo competing car.
...I still want one though.

Is the premium audio on the R32 the same as the premium audio option for the GTI's?
#15
Glad to see its 2 door + DSG

this car will be super cool, I saw one in LA about 6 months ago, just like the photo, it looks better in the flesh trust me, your gear lust will be sky high when you see it. DSG rocks. You know the first thing all you are going to do is start modding anyhow.

I just got done driving the MKV R32 at the VW sponsored Track Day at Barber MotorPark. It's a very nice car. For those of you who missed the MKIV here is your chance. I don't see myself taking the lateral move though. The car handled great, really did!! Just wasn't completely sold on the DSG aspect. I doubt VW will have a problem selling all 5,000. Hopefully they don't dumb down the suspension or anything like last time for us US people.

Thanks for for bringing it to Canada.......NOT. It looks like we are the only country around the globe that will not recieve it. Yet another VAG disappointment

It's to bad they didn't make an option for us either 6spd or DSG

Many people enjoy eating apples and oranges, but in the end they are still… just apples and oranges. The R32 is passion fruit.. Live Long and Prosper.

After seeing the difference between the mkIV GTI and R32, am I the only one disappointed by this? No transmission choice? No 5 door model? Only 250 hp? No thanks.

There's 40 million people in Canada. That's a small market to insist on completely different crash standards. They would need to both crash 3 cars and modify the bumbers, etc. It's just not worth it. We'd all be better off if the US, EU, and Canada could agree on a common set of safety standards.

Canada got left out again?

why do a news release but not give the most vital info?

Looks a bit plain to me.
I like subtle, but this is toooo subtle for the extra $8-10k or whatever they are going to charge over a GTi.

I think it's great that VW continues to bring us the R32, but I won't be switching from my MKIV version. The only way I would have considered switching is if it was the 5dr 6 speed manual version.
I don't like the trend of VW's special models starting to only come with DSG.
I'm sure it will sell just fine however.

It's not just about absolute peak numbers. You have to remember that the R32's engine produces a ton of low-end grunt (aka. torque), and its 250hp power figure is available throughout a broad range of RPM's unlike many cars with a very sharp power curve that just "blips" at a high peak number at sky-high RPM's.
What does this translate to? The R32, even with "only" a peak 250hp figure, is one hell of a lot more fun to drive on an everyday basis -- both on the track and on the street and commute.

I'm bummed this isn't coming to Canada.![]()
I would have bought one in a heartbeat.
