Thread: How much would it cost to paint my roof?

    1. 02-17-2007 09:28 PM #1
I'm thinking about picking up a silver TT and repainting the roof an pillars like the TT Sport. Any idea how much I should expect to pay? Here's an example

X2 ... my roof is fading BAD in many spots.
I'm thinking I could pick up a black Jetta front end cheap, as I've had a dent [basketball?] in my hood since I bought it ... dark green + black wouldn't look too bad!

      I love two-tone Euros!

a quality job without any needed bodywork, my guess is around $500, but that's just a guess based on my previous experiences with paint/repairs etc which is by no means extensive compared to others on this forum.

Since it is not a color match job and nothing needs to be removed to paint the top- it should be relatively easy. I say probably $500 at a quality body shop for a black+clear job on the roof.

I dunno, it seems so 1990's to me. The original NSX.. the 90's Camaro. Those were the most well-known cars with black roofs. Didn't the Eclipse GSX come with a black roof for a while too?

Maybe the first gen DSMs did, but not the second. I had a '96 GST and paid a lot of attention on the DSMs in that period.

I dunno, a google image search finds a boatload of DSM's, both 1st and 2nd gen with the black roofs.

Actually- I think ALL the Eagle Talons had the black roof treatment. It did make the cars look a bit higher end.

hmm, sure it wasn't just the turbo eagles?

Coworker of mine just sold his FWD non-turbo a while back ... it was purple, but don't recall it having a black roof at all, I think I'd have noticed that.

Not stock. All of them had black roofs. Even the POS 80hp? 1.8 models. You are welcome to search for a Talon with a painted roof. If your buddy's Talon had a painted roof- it probably was not stock paint (maybe accident repair?).

It is funny how he is just asking about the pricing, yet people feel the need to express their opinion on how bad it looks.

Interesting... When I read this thread I honestly believed my old NA talon was all purple. I had to go back and dig up my old photos to find out I was actually incorrect.

That car belongs to 1.8Tabamoura (Fabio). Might want to PM him and ask him directly since that was a custom paint job he had done. If you can't find him on here - he's a moderator on http://www.b5one.com as well.

Eagles came in two-tones, the Eclipse did not.

If he just wanted a price quote, he would have called several paint and body shops in his area. He posted it in the Car Lounge, which means he wanted there to be a discussion about it. It's more fun this way.

very true, would haev taken him 20 miniutes to drop by a body shop and go "how much to paint my roof", they guy would walk out, look at it, and say "ugh, maybe $600".

I dont understand why you are asking us, and not just calling some local bodyshops? I think they could be a little bit more helpful.

I think it looks better when it is just the roof and not a complete two tone. But it really depends on the style of the car.

I couldn't agree more. I know with the Acura NSX, they said they wanted to give it a fighter jet cockpit look. That obviously only really works on coupes with not a ton of greenhouse. The NSX & Eagle Talon are perfect examples of cars with sort of a single flowing arch over the top of the car. The TT is at least similar in terms of shape and I would say it looks equal to the NSX or Talon, but still, my complaint was simply that it's a 1990's styling cue.

I don't think you have any room to criticize someone else for a "dumb" post.

He didn't feel like calling the experts yet, so he turned to us. That's not the worst thing in the world. Maybe someone on here is a body expert and reads this? It took him what, 30 seconds to post. That's faster than getting a 20 "miniutes" quote from a body shop.
