This list doesn't exist on the internet, so why not start one here? This will be a super comprehensive list of all the manufacturers and all their variants. I know it'll be a huge list, but it seems like it would also be a great reference for anyone wanting info on the AR weapons system.

Contribute your info with the Manufacturer, and ALL their models which are basically clones of the AR weapons system. this is going to be comprehensive, but hey it'll be fun too! Maybe we could even make it a sticky?

I know nothing about the AR series of rifles really.... other than the first AR-15 sold for stupid money. The actual rifle that was shot by some General at a party, and was also shot on some boat by Kennedy and McNamara, and has a super high historical value. I wish I would have saved that ad offline now

No. It only has slight parts interchangeablity with the AR rifle and has a different gas opertation, piston vs direct impingement.

The HK416 upper is a direct replacement for the DI uppers already in service and can be installed on any milspec M16/M4/AR lower. Like HK, other piston op uppers from the likes of POF/DSA and Leitner-Wise as well as a few others.

Depending on the system, many parts commonality exist between the piston op and DI uppers.

Obviously, the gas operation deviates from the orginal DI design. However, there are a quite a few variants from Stoner's orginal design:

Forward assist, brass deflector, different sights, flat top, etc.

IMHO, I still consider the HK416 and other piston op uppers as being direct derivatives of the AR rifle. As an example, there are some systems out there that deviate from the HK roller locked delayed blowback systems but are still considered "clones" of the HK54/94

I just bought one of their muzzle brakes. I saw someone firing an AR with one in our last tac rifle match and had to have one. Its the cleanest looking brake. But it is loud.

i wanted to keep this thread focused on manufacturers that make entire weapons. the only reason is that there are SO MANY companies that make AR components (just lowers, or just uppers, or just furniture) that it would be almost impossible to keep track of. honestly it seems like every day i go to the range i see another AR component from a company i never heard of the week before. i often joke that I am the onlyperson not making an AR clone these days.
