Hamilton Impresses with Third on Debut

I can already smell the Jerk Chicken for Saturday night's race.

The Sunday morning tradition of Ackee & Saltfish (.....and dumblings) will have to wait for Bahrain, I guess

Unfortunatel practice counts for nothing. Be very interesting to see how the young fella does in qualifying though. He certainly seems to have all of the talent, not to mention the massive backing of McLaren.

I predict great things for Hamilton. I hope he can be the rookie that Nico Rosberg wasn't.

Second in Q1...first time on track? Surprised is an understatement..

    BUT Kimi.....HOLY SMOKES!!!

I saw a few of the GP2 races last year and lewis was no joke so I'm not surprised at the results. But given that it was his 1st ever drive in australia, 4th place is pretty darn impressive. He should only get better with more races under his belt. I can't wait to see him race in the tracks he's used to.

    4th! Stunning.

Is McLaren back? Tomorrow will be interesting.

Pretty impressive given that he wasn't passed on the field but in the pits. That was a great F1 start. Would have been even more fun had Massa not started from the back. Should be a great season

  14. 03-18-2007 12:45 AM #14
Excellent performance, despite the curbbage. I kept seeing a larger african looking woman, but I thought I saw her in the Ferrari pits. I know his birthmother was trying to fly to Oz, I dont think that was her.

  15. 03-18-2007 01:45 AM #15
Yeah I saw that woman too but I don't remember whose pits it was. Anyhow, his birthmother is white so that wasn't her

Did you all hear Bob Varsha and Steve Hobbs' comments?

'He's doing a good job despite his ethnic background'

'That's the darkest face we've ever seen on the podium'

No! You can't be serious! What a stupid thing to say...

I watch the ITV feed so I get different announcers... they kept repeating the same story about Lewis meeting Ron Dennis when he was 9.

i could understand why, think about it hamilton is as new to f1 as african americans sitting on a bus aka Rosa parks.

either way good race kinda boring but dont get to excited its only the first race.

  19. 03-18-2007 08:11 PM #19
LH did awesome. Definitely a great driver, he was great in GP2 and he showed that same class drive here again. He is very well spoken too.

    bravo

badly composed comparison. He's more like Jackie Robinson I'd say, or even Tiger Woods...

Alright, I'll bite on this one too.

Did you see the re-broadcast on SpeedTV?

It was clear to me that at one point Bob Varsha did make a comment, but I definitely heard it differently than you did.

He said something to this effect: "Hamilton is doing a fine job and is a great addition to the F1 grid, regardless of his ethnic background."

    That's what I heard.

And, yes he did make a comment about the 'darkest face' in F1. Ahhhh, that is true.

Yuh know us Carib Beans...we does hear what we does want to hear dread!

Nonetheless, it pains me to see such superlatives come into thought when remarking on his talents.

I dunno...... It is what it is....... In this case, I think Varsha was doing just the opposite. He was making it pretty clear that Hamilton was a fresh face and good for the sport.........regardless of his ethnic background.

He even reiterated it on Wind Tunnel Sunday night.

It's not like he said "He was fast and articulate....for a black guy."

p.s. Don't get me wrong.....Some journalist, somewhere, is going to make an arse of themselves in public soon, real soon.

Yu know what wi sah, Cease 'an Sickle!

    NOW THAT... would be horendous.....

I can see it now Al Sharpton debroading a plane at Suzuka, and his entourage slipping on the tarmac from all the jerri juice...

Someone though will definitely make an ass of themselves.

    Congrats to Hamilton.

We'll see Al Sharpton step in once Fuzzy Zoeller catches wind of all of this and tosses out another "fried chicken and collard greens " comment like he did when Tiger won the 97 Masters.

At this rate, those models will cost an extra fortune!

At this rate, europeans are going to be looking for Grenadian kids to teach to drive! Brilliant drive! Esp holding off Kimi in the close. I gotta get my Hammy merchandise for the Canadian Gran Prix.
