Can you guys recommend a brand or cut of jeans that would work for me? I blew out the crotch in my 501 STF's, and I didn't have very much flexibility in them. Stepping onto something decently high was a no go.

I shrunk 34x36's, I liked the way they shrunk but like i said I didn't have much mobility. I want to buy selvedge this time, but it seems like only skinny guys buy selvedge. So far I've considered:

    Levi 501 selvedge
    Naked and Famous WeirdGuy selvedge
    Nudie Jeans Hank Rey
    Nudie Jeans Average Joe

In case you want more info I'm about a 33x34, but I have an athletic build.

I've had numerous repairs done to my jeans after ripping thru the crotch... including APC new standard, Nudie Big Bengt... I have a pair of naked and famous weirdguy too but if you have bigger legs they will fit skin tight (hence why I dont wear them anymore). however I just bought this pair of nudies around xmas that have some stretch to them... they seem to be holding up better than the previous pairs I have.

I bought a pair of these for $80 the other day. 14.5oz denim. construction seems to be pretty good.

I bought some Tellason Ankara's about 3 weeks ago, and have about 7-8 wears on them. I like them a lot, you should definitely check them out. They are sanforized, so they aren't going to shrink much...but you shouldn't be washing them until you've stretched them out with 100+ wears anyway.

I keep seeing you guys talk about soaking your denim jeans, do you dry them on just a hanger or throw them in the dryer? I really like the look that some of you guys are getting out of these

Thanks for the quick reply. Any recommendations on a nice pair. Never bought any expensive jeans, usually just go to the mall and grab some Old Navy or some other brand name pair that fits.

APC New Standard seems to be the gateway drug for most.

I hope you bought them in your actual waist size because they don't stretch at all.

I was told they were pretty true so yes they fit pretty good as is, not struggling to get in them or anything, just getting them hemmed as I found them a bit longer than I wanted and the shop offered at no extra charge. Went in looking at the Naked & Famous x Oni's but sizing was not right with what the shop had left so decided to grab these instead, just getting something new before I relocate to the UK and the prices go up.

Any of you get the Converse Selvage? I picked up a pair for work because they were cheap and dont give a crap about them. Cut them into shorts and have been wearing them Mon-Fri. They are coming out nice for cheap denim.

So forgive my ignorance here, but I only read a few pages of the beginning of this thread and had a few questions..

    1. Any particular brands I should look for in a first pair of RAW?
    2. Is sizing as issue between brands with some running smaller or larger than advertised?
    3. I wear jeans almost daily, anything I would need to look out for as far as the dye rubbing off?

    Thanks in advance all!

    1. APC is probably the gateway brand for most people. Gap selvedge is probably the cheapest decent product, if you can find it. Tellason, Nudie, LVC are all available around the $175-200 range and are good too.

    2. Yes, absolutely. Try them on before you buy them, and they should be snug, not painfully tight, when they are new.

    3. I have never had a problem with it, but it is possible, especially if they are wet. You can pre-soak in cold water to get some of the dye out if you want, but I've never had either APC or Tellason denim stain anything.

These are what I've been wearing for the past 8 months and they're finally starting to get some decent fades. Probably going to pick up a different more pricey brand in the next few months but the Gap slevage jeans have been great for the price

They're not raw through they come "rinsed once" I think.

The Gap selvedge is not bad at all, I have gotten a couple of really cheap pairs in the last couple years as seems they always go on sale. I also like the Uniqlo UJ Made in Japan denim as well, I have been wearing a pair I got in Tokyo for 9 months or so and still loving them, and I think were only about $40 converted.

Need to start at my Wings + Horns pair here soon too.

  29. 09-13-2012 08:07 AM #5280
for $200 I'd go with Momotaro or Japan Blue...

I got some APC petite standards in size 30 that are brand new that I'm not going to be wearing any one wish to buy? I'd do $175 shipped

How about the Unbranded 14.5 oz? I ordered a pair, I can report back once I have tried them on and inspected them.

I got a pair of Naked & Famous Weird Guys on sale at the Barney's Outlet near me for $60.
They fit like New Standards, but have a lower rise, which I don't really like too much.
    For $60, I shouldn't really complain, though.

I recently dove into the selvedge denim at nordstrom rack.

On two separate occasions I found:

-Levi's Matchstick selvedge, dark blue almost black $55
wore these for about a month straight, they are still very starchy and the deep blue is wearing off onto everything light colored, my shoes are blue now and my hands are blue anytime I wear them. Not wearing them again until I do a cold rinse in the tub to get some of this dye off.
This guy did a review on the same pair.
    http://www.rawrdenim.com/forum/showt...dge-matchstick

-True Religion Phantom Matt Slim jeans. I got these cheap in TR terms. $100.
I hate the TR look with the horseshoes on the back pockets and tacky stitching but these are classy as hell. The horseshoe on the back pockets are not stitched but press formed so you cannot see them unless very close, the stitching is a nice yellow and the color and fit are awesome. Also, american made with an embroidered american flag, they are ncie jeans, wish I bought two pairs.
