raw denim is the question. if you don’t know, well there’s the internet. there are just some confusing things about it. i’m following and sticking to the concept of wearing raw denim to gain the characteristics of your own life, and have them relfect the things you put them through.. i.e. - sitting in beer, grass stains, **** stains, snotty dog snout, etc. not that i intend on putting my jeans through these things, but hey, it’s an experiment and **** happens. but there is just something i don’t get. nudie jeans company sticks to their word, that ”denim has the ability to age beautifully – formed by its user into a second skin, naked and personal. the longer it lives the more character it gets. the indigo is a living colour that fades and gives the denim its character. the more you wear your jeans the more beautiful they get. jeans are more than just a piece of clothing.” that’s all well and good.. but when is enough? i’m talking about the middle ground between wearing a pair of jeans for 9-12 months just so that you can get a nice fade, and it getting past the point of you even being able to wear these said jeans when it comes time to wash OR, on the other hand, having a pair of 9 month old raw or selvage denim that look like they’re right off the rack. it seems as if that’s all you’re supposed to do. wear the jeans, get the fade, move on to another pair. what happens after that? you have the nice fade, but then you get fat! then they look like ****! then they…fall…apart! nicer heavy quicker fading denim is what is needed. it’s not all about the price tag, it’s about the look… right? that’s what we’re going for here? where’s the middle ground? you wear these jeans everyday, they’re slept in, fought in, pissed in, drank in, thrown up in, whatever. and by this, you want the best results in the quickest way possible. you’re not in it for the smell of them, or how they look to begin with… but rather the end result. and so why in the **** would you consider wearing a pair of It’s Pat-looking pieces of **** for 9 months, and not see a change?! (see first posted picture - (left) 9months sugarcanes - (right) 9 months diors - both $300+). that is what i do not understand. an enormous waste of time if you ask me. i began to think of this problem tonight conversing with a fellow friend on the internet when the thought dawned on me. it has to be the price tag. high price tags influence people to think highly of material things. but monies don’ts buys brainses.

      shocker!

its cuz of the 100% cotton thread they use instead of the more 'modern' poly-cotton... supposedly it is 100% cotton for the nostalgia of the original denim companies always using 100% cotton thread.

it does kinda worry me cuz i didnt know that before i ordered them. im gonna see how they fit when they get here and i might return them and exchange them for the flatheads which seem to hold up alot better.

Believe me, that's why I don't own a pair. Actually, I was going to buy a pair of Skullies but after reading so many stories about stitching coming undone, I decided to go with something else instead. That was the only reason I didn't buy them. I really like the jean.

yeah, and i dont really mind that cuz i like the repaired aspect of a jeans... the idea behind still using the cotton thread is so the owner of the jeans can develop a good relationship with the store where they bought them from. of course, in japan where they are made... high quality denim stores are easier to find, so you can walk down to your local denim store and get your jeans repaired by a quality tailor.

we can do that downtown, too, at big

I didn't want to go through repairing, in all seriousness. What you said makes sense, though.

speaking of which...check this APC crotch blowout

well, i mean i ride like 8-10 miles a day on my bike, so my crotch is doomed from the get go. i'm just going to repair them when i need to, i'm okay with a needle and thread. thats the thing that sucks about skulls, amazing cut and vintage-like construction, but they just don't seem to hold up great.

I've been lurking in this thread for a bit, scanning it for pics. I'm on the fence about picking up some Nudie RRDS, but i would like to see specific pics of how they fall over shoes. I wear all kinds of shoes, from checkerboard vans old skools to nike airs to kenneth cole dress shoes, and everything in between. I've read that the Regular Ralfs are slightly boot cut, and more relaxed fit than the Boot Cut Olas, but I'd like to see more pics than what's offered on retailers' websites.

I figured this was an appropriate thread, but I have no problem taking this post out and starting an original thread.

      Thanks in advance.

so the skulls are WAY too small as in the button is still like 2 inches apart where i would normally button them. they are definitely going back... but im not sure what im gonna get cuz i thin the 5010xx is way too skinny for my liking.

Yep, I bought a pair of those a few months back. Had to take them in at the thighs because of my skinny frame, though. Never had any problems with the cotton thread either, and I've been skating alot in them.
