    Thread: Flashing Check Engine Light

    1. 04-06-2007 11:56 AM #1
The other morning, I started my car (Jetta 2.0T), and the engine was shuttering and the check engine light was flashing. I turned off the car, waited 30seconds, started it again, and it was like nothing had happened (started up normail the second time). Has anyone experienced this before?

A flashing check engine light is indicitive of an ignition based problem. The shuttering at idle is also inline with ignition based problems. When a car is misfiring, sometimes it feels like the engine wants to jump right out of the car.

Have you had the car scanned for codes as of yet?

If it happens again, tighten your gas cap. Sounds dumb, but I had the same problem, and the loose gas cap was the reason.

not yet, but i'm going to make an appointment at the dealer. Would the error be kept in memory?

Yes, the codes are stored in the ECU until cleared or the problem is ultimately fixed.
