As the title says, I propose a Harlequin appreciation thread. They are the coolest cars that VW built during the time of the mk3, and not many people know much about them
I knew that there were multi colored VWs, but always thought a bunch of people just got together to have some fun, and never though that VW had made a special edition.
Pics, that I have found:
I never liked the Mk3, but now I want a harlequin.
Also, a side question, how much do these go for?
#3
But lets say I do find one, how much shoudl i offer, or agree to pay for it?Also, anyone ahve cool pics of it?
#4
funny how the only pics people ever usually dig up are Mike's![]()
understandable thoughas for your question regarding how much they go for: i want $20k for mine. its #14 and its very rare plus i say so
![]()
joking. in great condition and stock, can see 4-7k in my personal opinion (pending mileage)
i also looked for a year for mine, theres a few up in canada but the paperwork to get it into the states and making it legal could cost you a decent amount

4-7K, not bad, but kinda a lot.
As for the Canada cars, I hear that as long as the Canadian car is 10 years or older, it can be imported without problems, but I might be wrong.
A year is a lot of time to find a car, but also a lot of time to save up for a 1.8t swap.,or whatever mods.
ThanksAlso, how about some pics of yours?

i tried to import a canadian harlequin and the paperwork and hassle was outrageous. too stressful for my liking. plus you have to modify the car to get it to pass inspection

good. that's one more harli that stays up here![]()

Really it depends on how bad you want one and what your willing to pay for it. I know that sounds very general but thats what it comes down to.Mine just kinda fell in my lap when I was thinking of getting a different car. Was fairly close (same state) and I bought it for $4200. Dealer originally wanted $8000. I laughed at them.
Honestly I wouldn't look in to spending any more to buy one then a normal golf. It's basicly all they are. Some people wouldn't be caught dead driving them. But if your REALLY wanting one then you might be willing to pay more for it.
There is another guy in Seattle (west coast) that has one and his wife flew over to the east coast to buy it and drove it back. So it all kinda depends on how bad you want one.

Good idea,
for reference use http://rossvw.com/
Hopefully, we won't hear anything about "solid color Harleguins that left the factory". They all left with the panels switched. If they are found all in one color, then they were repainted in the base color somewhere along the line. See #'s 13 and 82 on the ross web site.
All true Harlequins had the "Joker" pattern seats. Ginster four doors were never released on this side of the pond, Pistachio and Chagal were not used on this side of the pond. Also, I hope we don't see any posts referencing the clowns from "Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus", and the judges from the "1996 Summer Olympics".

Overheard on 27 June 07, one lady to another when they saw my Harli in a parking lot at West Point, "maybe he found it on the clearance aisle at the Volkswagen dealer"

i'd still love to see a pair of different colored dual rounds on these things.

haha, my car is a whore, she'll be back on the street corner soon![]()

OO,
I also found that web page.
Are the stick versions a lot more rare than the automatics?
Because for some reason to me, a car without a stick isn't a car anymore.
Don't mean to offend anyone, but its weird since I now know how to drive a stick.
And the Joker seats are amazing.
Also, has anyone ever seen that multicolored MOMO wheel that matched the harlequin?
#19
the automatics far out number the manualsmine was originally an auto (still has the OG cluster) but its a 5spd now
and yes, normally the harlequin owners get them for their cars. bennetton wheels is the name of it. my spelling might be a little off. it doesnt totally match the car, the green is a little off. but its still a great wheel. very comfortable in the hand. ive got one

So that makes my search 10 times as hard.
GRRR
Well, when i finish my 71 Super Beetle, I am going to start searchign rite away.
Also, isn't it true that an Mk4 1.8t just bolts in? Or is that a myth.I am glad that this thread is going well.

I don't have a harlequin, but I definitely love 'em.
I tried to make one of my own, but I'm colorblind, so it only half-worked.

Hope I don't get in trouble for this...About a month ago VW dealers got in some new promo materials. As soon as these showed up my guy down in parts gave me a call at home and told me to rush down that he had something for me. He saved 3 sets of these for me.
They are postcard sized trading cards. These pictures are of the top card and the harlequin card in the deck....

Notice no front lip.. OOPS!

Oh, and here is my Harlequin to join in the appriciation thread for the car that got me into mkIII's as well
As for price. I can't say how much I paid as part of my deal but lets say That 7-8K figure is a relevant. But then again mine only had 39K miles on it and was show room fresh inside and out when I picked it up (still smells like a new car inside
).

I just couldn't deal with the hubcaps it came with, they had to go in short order. I've got coilovers sitting in my garage waiting to go on and some 15x8 cups for the rear also waiting to go on. She's gonna look like this in short order... (but with wider wheels on the back
)

no idea what they would be worth. in good condition i would say they are worth about as much as any set of print cloth MKIII seats (i.e. "plaids" or "children at play" etc.)
