I got my coils on today..... still need to fine tune the ride height though... (oh and excuse my dirty ass car )

But in the process of doin the install I found this...

So I'll wait till my 195/45s show up and get installed before I do too much more adjusting on them...

Oh... They are VMaxx Coilover... Front still has 60mm of threads left and the back has 80mm left. Can't tell you what they ride like yet due to the scary tire.

    Here's mine... number 147

Still saving up money to have it painted back...

A little tip to those looking for these cars. Look at EVERY 1996 Golf you can find. That's how I found this one.

As far as what I paid... it was a 1996 Golf , check Kelly Blue Book.

Rare is in the eye of the buyer and seller, point of the story is you can get these cars at a reasonable price.

    That's pretty cool!
Can you post a pic that proves it's a harlequin?
I'm not doubting you, I'd just like to see. Was it never swapped, or was it re-painted? Any errors in the paint?

Whats the VIN? Have you gone to ROSSVW.com? The all one color ones are pretty tough to find even more so than the Multi. I am glad to see that Badclown is taking VERY good care of my former baby.

the reactions are absolutely classic. various reactions: pointing, laughter, dropped jaws, staring. its hilarious

and as for Mike selling his car: no time soon my friend

I remember driving that car from Adam's house to the UPS depot to pick up a package... literally every stop light someone asked me a different dumb ass question.

    It was great.

Hope I don't get in trouble for this...

About a month ago VW dealers got in some new promo materials. As soon as these showed up my guy down in parts gave me a call at home and told me to rush down that he had something for me. He saved 3 sets of these for me.

They are postcard sized trading cards. These pictures are of the top card and the harlequin card in the deck....

    Notice no front lip.. OOPS!

I was just going to scan my set, copped it from work. Those are some cool car(d)s.

ive heard that the cars came off the line in solid colors and they swapped the panels right there

when they got to the states the dealerships had a hard time selling them (go figure) so they were used as fleet vehicles or when it came down to it, if a dealership had some still on the lot they would paint them a solid color. if you run the VIN on the solid ones it still says its a harlequin

Adam: shes finally going to start coming together and get put on the road and driven. i sent you an email today about some things

There have been a few found in solid colors, #13 of the 200 run is all Pistachio for example. # 82 of the 200 run is all Ginster. The most recent post that we have by mein69 seems to be all Tornado. He also posts that it is #147, but it is not listed at rossvw.com .
In any case, they were repainted after they left the factory, because somewhere along the line they were hard to sell, or the owner didn't want to keep the multi-colored paint job. A couple of years ago, I heard that one was found in a junkyard in California that had been painted black.

Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard

Overheard on 27 June 07, one lady to another when they saw my Harli in a parking lot at West Point, "maybe he found it on the clearance aisle at the Volkswagen dealer"

you know after i got mine i tried to register over at rossvw a 'couple' of times, and never got anywhere. i had even sent him some emails a few months prior to me buying mine with some pics i had and what not and never got a reply.

i don't think ross cupples updates the page anymore and i'm affraid it's just gonna disappear one day.

Look at the sticker on the fuel pump cover in the trunk and you should find the vehicle info sticker. This is the one from BADCLOWN's car (my old car) it clearly states arlequin

And this is a classic pic that will always stay with me. I almost got in trouble for putting the car where it was

Actually, if you run the VIN on ANY 1996 Golf (like, carfax for example), it'll say the word "harlequin" in the description of the vehicle. True story.

I did this when I had my Carfax access for a month when I was buying my wife's MKIII. I ran VIN's off the autotrader like it was going out of style. I even got through to VW of America and ran a couple of the VINs by them. One's that I knew where harley's and one's that came up as harleys but didn't have any Harley traits (colors or interior). It confirmed that NOT all Carfax Harlequins are actual harlequins. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

    So who's selling their Harley?

I've thought about making a RED 99 MKIII Wolfsburg Golf into a Wolf in Harley clothing. It wouldn't be the same. But it would have all the other goodies, like power and remote everything with a sunroof. Anyone got a Wolfie for sale?

  30. 04-24-2007 12:47 PM #100
Does it have these seats? If so, it's a Harlequin, if not, it's not!
