Maybe I should spend my time camped in front of an Apple store so I can get one. At least then I can make an intelligent opinion, rather than "e-evaluating" on something nobody has yet and is pretty much speculation as to how well it's really going to work.
No, I won't be getting one. It's not where I need it to be to be worthwhile. Maybe the next rev it'll be there. But at least I'm mature enough to look at the phone for it's specs, and not what logo is on it.

Calm down. It's responses of that type that get people labeled as a Fanboy.
But really: it's GSM. It can have all the features in the world, but in the US it's barely going to be able to make calls. Even if it can it will still not sound as good as CDMA phones. Why do the other features matter? It's a phone.

Sounds like you've bought into the CDMA propagandaPropaganda? That's awfully assumptive. The fact is I've owned GSM and CDMA phones. They both pull comprable coverage in the city, but when you try to use them out in the hills or in less dense parts of the country the network just isn't there when you're using a GSM phone. I like to make calls with as much clarity and consitency when I'm in the middle of my office building in Cambridge, when I'm at the ski resorts, and when I'm out in Western Massachusetts and GSM networks just arn't at that point. Even when I am in the city I have a much better CDMA signal and the voice quality is superior. Most people can't claim to have had both types of provider, but I can. Don't lump me in with the proles who bandwagon onto the coolest trend or the latest series of commericals.

ive had both and i get better reception in general with gsm.
#14
I travel all over the country and rarely have any reception problems with my ATT (formerly Cingular) GSM phones. I get reception at even some of the most remote racetracks. Ask anyone how well Verizon works at Lime Rock compared to Cingular.![]()
#15
I usually get better reception with my GSM phone than my friends with Verizon. Then again, it all depends on where you are. Is it really worth fighting about? Get what works best for you.

gsm has alot more limitations then CDMA, theres no getting around it.however, like i told everyone, if you can reliably make and receive calls, no reason to switch

iDEN > CDMA > GSM if you're talking about reception retention

Regardless of whether CDMA or GSM gets better reception (it varies by area anyways) this is not 3G and yet it's a data device thus it's as useless as a 3rd nipple.

I think once it's out for a week it'll be forgotten and the "cool" factor will fade....it's simply not in the same game changing sphere as the ipod was for music, the i phone doesn't do anything new as far as phones go...it's just a sleek looking pda.beh...

Thats a little short. I'll give it maybe a year. You'll need to allow at&t to offer (which the will eventually have to) discounts since the initial price to play is steep. Plus over time (hopefully) someone will hack it so you can load real 3rd party apps on it. Then it will become popular.

Yeah, known fact that the first generation of iPhone doesn't have high-speed data capabilities. But it won't be long before it's available as well as on other carriers. Verizon is scheduled to get it in 2015.![]()

Verizon will also let you play Bejeweled on it for just $5/month. That's going to rock! Take that AT&T!

because it is on a slow connection...
Anyway, should be interesting to see the price plan set out for the iPhone and whether or not AT&T forces a data plan on the end user

I have some reservations about this phone. It's not 3G capable. How good is it at receiving over-the-air streaming video (not uploaded iTunes) ? If it's as easy to scratch as the iPod, then that's a little bit of a problem for me, especially with the $600 price tag. I'm also curious about the monthly service cost. I'll look into it once the hype goes down a bitBTW, what's the battery life on that thing and is it user-replaceable or forever sealed? So many questions, so few answers...so many dollars

apparently it's going to made with optical glass, so less scratches, they say. we'll see, i guess.
and battery life is said to be 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of internet, and 7 of video playback.
the battery is sealed, like the ipod.
