The only advantage is syncing contacts. You can't sync contacts through the official GMail interface, but can through the Exchange interface.
#15754
Ok I did the Exchange thing is there a sync button I'm missing because it didn't auto sync, contacts are not yet present. I'll have to go back double check my steps.
Thanks Syntrix for responding but due to your constant spew of condenscending responses to all things iphone I've chosen to place you on my ignore list, and therefore I'm unable to see your comments. Looking at the above quote of your comment, ha! you surely met expectations.

Yup, by default it does not synch contacts...
Settings, mail, exchange..turn on the switch for "Contacts"
#15757
Correct. What it was really useful for was making the transition to the iPhone from an Android. It was able to pull in all my contacts. if you sync to iTunes and dont need/want to import from Gmail, it serves no purpose to you.![]()

Note: On some phones it gets "stuck" at 50 contacts. Just toggle off then back on. Might happen again at 100. Seems fine after that.

Why is that I lose the my sound everytime I unplug the aux output cord for my vehicle? I have sound, I plug it in and use Slacker radio while driving, unplug it and there's no sound. I'm aware of the issue of plugging something into the headphone jack and it "sticking" inside but once I reboot the sound is back so it's a software issue not hardware.
Any ideas?

Here's an unusual question:
How much should I ask for my Apple iPhone 4S (Latest Model) - 16GB - Black (Sprint)? I was used for about a month, and I simply don't like it compared to my HTC Evo Shift 4G. They SEEM to be selling for around $400-450 for used on eBay from large sellers.

This is a Sprint phone...just to be sure...it CANNOT be used on Verizon or any other network...correct?

Are the chargers used for AT&T iphones any different than their verizon counterparts?

I work shifts and need to dump *most* calls to voicemail while I am sleeping - with the exception of a few emergency contacts. My BB did this 5 years ago, and my Droid X does it with a $3 app. The iPhone can launch a lunar probe but can't selectively screen callers without jailbreaking and going with a third party app. This is a dealbreaker.
Has anyone tried this workaround?
I'd like to know if this silences incoming SMS notifications as well as default ringtone callers. I'm all-in if this works, but I can't seem to find anyone who owns a 4S and is willing to try it for me. Any help is greatly appreciated and will result in a n00b fanboy.![]()

Why is jail breaking a deal breaker? iblacklist is an awesome jailbreak app. I can go with a white list and only allow list of contacts that can reach me or a blacklist that allows anyone.except anyone I blacklist.
Your method will not silence SMS. You would have to make a silence SMS tone and set it as default. You would also need to shut off notifications because that tone is not customizable unless you jailbreak and use iPhone browser to change the default file.

I agree that iBlacklist looks like a terrific third-party app, but I just don't want it. I actually read the entire .pdf for the app (available here) and found it loaded with typos and lost-in-translation wording. I'm always leery of software written by folks who don't spend too much time proofreading.
Actually, I saw the option of setting SMS, email and all other notifications (except calls, of course) to "NONE". It looks like I can silence all notifications with a couple of keystrokes.Your method will not silence SMS. You would have to make a silence SMS tone and set it as default. I just want to confirm that it's possible to completely silence incoming calls with the "silent" ringtone, and assign custom ringtones to my "whitelist" to have them ring through. Looks feasible, no?

Btw the 4s jailbreak is pretty much a mouse click and to restore it back to factory condition is another mouse click.
Iblacklist does gave a trial period with all features, and then it is free with limited features ( pretty much only 1 blacklist and 1 white list) In its limited state it works for me because I don't need multiple lists.
So there is no commitment or funds that need to be spent.

Thank you, sir.![]()
Good info. It's not a money thing - I just feel the whole jailbreak hack (along with rooting Android) is like raping the OS and asking for trouble down the road... 2+ years with Android and I never felt the need to root. Perhaps I'll feel differently once I own it and have some time to get pi$$ed at the devs!
Now, where can I get a pair of throwback Cons in 13EEE?![]()

This may have been covered here, and if so I apologize. I use my 3GS for my work line and ever since I upgraded to 5.0.1 I can't send out email. None of the settings changed. AT&T service and Been using cwmx.com as the outgoing server but it apparently no longer works. Ideas?

Get a phone that works for business? Just sayin'; and it doesn't apply to iphone 100%, samsung has put out some phones that don't work for business years ago around 3GS time, maybe they fixed those issues, maybe not.
But you are using an old phone and an OS that's been fragmented over the years with MANY releases. Not everyone can update the older versions on the fly, much less afford the additional data costs where there is not a wifi connection.

The phone has worked fine for two years in this capacity. It receives incoming emails fine, receives calls. I'm not asking it to do something fancy.

Wow - it's dead in here. I don't think I've ever seen it go over a week between something interesting being posted up here.

Starting tomorrow AT&T will start unlocking off contract iPhones for good standing customers. Good news for me. I have a spare iPhone 4 that I was gonna sell but now I can give it to my girlfriend who has Tmobile

I would like to use my (AT&T) 4s with my Tmobile sim card, which is the best "piggyback" sim card:
Rebel Sim or Gevey Sim ?
My 4s has 5.0 f/w and 1.0.11 modem. Its already jailbroken. Ready and waiting:
EDIT: Well I got the Gevey after reading about problems with the Rebel sim. I am now using my phone on T Mobile.
If anyone has any questions about these interposer sims, let me know. I'll try to answer as best as possible.

Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Well its only been 3 days, but I figured I would give a quick update. The phones been working fine, if it looses signal it regains signal very quickly. I also have internet even though the phone doesn't have the APN field to enter the apn. Odd but it works.

Having thoughts of buying a 4S.
Currently on a BlackBerry 9700 that I've had for 2.5 years already. My carrier is offering "Refreshed" iPhone 4S 16gbs for $349 outright, and $59 on a 3-year contract. I currently have 7 months left in my contract, with a $10/month buyout if I signed a new contract. If I buy outright, I will be contract free and eligible for a full discount shortly after the next generation iPhone is out, if it launches in the fall.
I'm thinking if I bought it outright, and sold it for a next-gen model in the fall, I would probably end up roughly breaking even, minus the contract price for the next-gen. Is this realistic, or will a 4S be worth less than $350 in the fall?
