So...my 4S is jailbroken and that's very important to me and I don't want to loose it...but I got a notification that there is an upgrade to IOS 5.1.1

1. What does that upgrade actually do for me? Anything cool?
2. Will the OTA update wreck my jailbrake? I know OTAs wreck some/may root jobs on Android, so thought I'd double check...

I don't remember what 5.1.1 gives you, but you can upgrade and re-jailbreak with absinthe.

kinda in a similar boat. pre-ordered, but not expecting shipment until Oct 1. How difficult or feasible would it be for me to keep my order, and walk into the Apple Store on friday (assuming I am able to wait in line before it sells out) and at the register cancel my pre-order thereby allowing me to buy in person at the subsidized 2-year contract price?

I was on 5.1.1 jb'd and just updated to iOS6, mainly b/c my 5 will be here in 2 days and I'm sending my 4 into Gazelle. What I will miss most will be SBS and PDANet for sure. Having the 5 and getting an extra row of icons will be nice. Having InfiniFolders and FolderCloser and NoSpot was nice too. Chances are once there's an untethered jb for iOS6 on the 5 I'll do it right away. But alot of the new cool features of iOS6 don't work on the 4, like panorama & FaceTime over cellular, and I'm not sure if there's a setting I'm missing but FlyOver in Maps isn't showing up. You get a sh*t ton new emojis, the do not disturb setting in calls, passbook, and fb integration. If I were keeping my 4 or 4S, I'd wait for a jb before updating that's for sure.

The maps is pretty slick from first impressions. Gas Stations and POIs are right there, and the 3D appears nice too. Took about 20 second to lock the GPS on to with about 10' of me.

Updated to iOS6 and now it won't connect to my Wifi, it jumps me to an Apple Login screen that says Page Not Found.

Upgraded both my iPad 3 and iPhone 4 and no issues so far.

Maps are interesting. People need to realize that it will take some time for Apple to catch up with Google Maps. I'm sure Google will release an iOS maps app in time and people will have the choice of which service to use.

Can't you download it over wifi instead? 2.5GB for the OS, damn the ISO for Windows7 is 2.5gb... Average size for a desktop OS but a mobile OS being that large is nuts...

Passport wasn't working for me after the update. It would open and when I clicked in the App Store link it would give a "not found" message.

To fix it go into your general settings and under date and time set it to manual. Advance the date a month and then open passport and use the App Store link. Once it loads go back ink settings and set your date & time back to auto.

Upgrading an OS works the same way. The OS isn't 2.5GB, it just needs that much space during the upgrade process. There has to be room for the existing OS, room to download the ~900GB upgrade file and some spare room to move files around as they are added/updated.

BTW- The ISO for Windows 7 is highly compressed.

BUT you need to use the number they have on file, which may not be your cell number! The one that worked for me was my parents' house phone number.

I assume you've tried both lol, but it's no hyphens, just numbers. I used the number that I upgraded the phone with, my own. Just left Kentucky at 3:30pm. One of my buddies that works at a Best Buy apparently got his hands on one today and got me all riled up about it.

I pre-ordered via AT&T online on Friday morning at 8am CST. Tons of people on the Macrumors forums that ordered after me had tracking information as early as Wednesday afternoon As of an hour ago, my order was still backordered, so I cancelled with AT&T's site. I will just brave the lines full of 4S's with my dying Windows Phone. My phone should start some interesting conversations.

This. I was looking over in Europe and it took almost a full minute to load. Google maps was on point. I hope the 5 can work it out quicker than this 4. I plan on continually using Waze and not Apple's turn-by-turn. And I'll prob download Google Maps when/if available.

Edit. Also, has anyone else noticed charging is intermittent? You can have the cable plugged in be it AC out or cig lighter and the phone isn't charging? Unplug it and plug back in and it starts charging. Gotta be bc of the update as it only just started doing this.
