      Good morning everyone!

I'm really wanting to start hitting some Self Serve / U-Pull-It kind of wrecking yards in search of New Beetle parts.

Anyone know of where I might find some?

I managed to find Foster Auto Parts in Portland and they didn't have much.

Any ideas would be great, thanks!

Honestly you are not going to find a new beetle in a u pull it yard. The parts are still worth too much. I would try a german only kind of place. I have been to all of the u-pull its and paw and others in oregon many many times and never seen a nb out for people to pick through... good luck!

Parts? I'm looking for an aftermarket spoiler.. the kind that goes below the glass and gives a bit of extra something to the car.

A couple of black leather headrests.... a rear passenger backup light (I have an '02 Turbo)

(thinks).... and... I'm not sure what else.. sometimes cars come in a little modified... so I want to keep my eye out for any aftermarket intakes...etc.

What model / color / etc is the bug ? Aftermarket stereo or subs on it by any chance?

What are the chances of getting a photo of the bug & interior? (I know that's a lot to ask but I won't know UNLESS I ask right?

      lol.

1 in a million my friend. If by chance a NB comes in, the popular parts are snatched as soon as the first person looks at it. Aftermarket parts? Even faster.

If you are looking for something specific on a car that rarely shows up in a junkyard (most NB's go to dismantlers, not yards) you're going to have to go to all the junkyards in the area regularly. I'm talking every weekend going out to as many as possible. Don't expect anyone at the junkyard to tell you what is out there. Some yards might tell you, some won't. They certainly won't take pictures of the cars for you either.

I realize most yards are a fast paced (You want it come get it NOW ) kind of thing. And they usually don't even know what they have ON a car. "Uh.. sure it has a .. what did you say again.. spoiler?" ... but since 'Generations' works there, I didnt' think it would hurt to ask.

Usually I check with a few places and see if they have one or two. If they do, then I drive down and look at what they have.

Othewise, If they don't have any bugs, it's a waste of gas just to drive down there.

I've found several actually. they come and get pulled apart quickly.

I've managed to get some parts I needed... like the little rear cargo-area cover, got one for $15. Picked up some replacement interior light covers for my last bug at a local u-pull-it.

I wonder if I should start picking up every part I find that's good and then selling them to on vortex or newbeetle.org that need them. Some parts are so hard to find these days without paying a fortune.

i would have to agree to a certain extent about the calling as most busy yards get new arrivals everyday.. but @ Foster Auto Parts in Salem i get to see all the cars when they arrive BEFORE they get processed... being a vw/audi nut and loving cars in general i always look over most of the cars to see what they do and do not have..

aftermarket parts are there but a hit and miss thing, sometimes we get some good stuff, but we also see alot of hacked up crap too.. also we do not inventory alot of the aftermarket stuff, as we primarily deal w/ shops doing repair or bodywork where there is no need for the aftermarket goodies.. thats where the inside person like me comes in handy also alot of stuff gets cored out for scrap value w/ the recycling market at an all time high.. this means calipers, carriers, cats, aluminum, etc, gets taken off the car when it is being processed unless there is a demand for the items.. I am pretty sure we track every lost sale and modify inventory according to demand...

Seeing how the Foster Yards are more of a dismantler, we do take care of walk-in customers and they are chaperoned out into the yard.. keep in mind we change inventory constantly and the average car stays in the yard for 6-8 mos. or sooner if depending on the demand from that particular car. also plan on a minimum yard charge of $35 at these types of facilities for even the smallest part, but if you think about it we pay someone to pull your part and offer a warranty on the item unlike some other guys in the business..
